[edit]

"checking the OSHA data to verify whether McWane, Inc.'s new safety standards have made working conditions truly safer for its foundry employees" does not tell the reader whether all the upgrades were made or not. any specific info?99.140.187.120 (talk) 17:23, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing this article

[edit]

To whom it may concern: the vast majority of this article right now is essentially an attack on the company. According to my understanding of WP:NPOV and WP:COATRACK guidelines, the article is an extreme example of the case. Surely a company with a 90-year history could have a better article than this. To be clear, I don't mean to suggest that the company's legal issues and negative attention do not belong here, but they should be put in context. That's what I'd like to do. In my user space I have done my best to create an alternate draft that keeps the significant details of those cases while adding substantial, reliably-sourced information about the company's beginnings, expansion, acquisitions and modern operations, including its philanthropic efforts (see here: User:Hydria/McWane). While I think any reasonable analysis would find the replacement article to be much better and more in line with Wikipedia's rules and spirit than the current one, McWane is also a company that I have a professional relationship with, and I'm familiar with the subject of WP:COI and so I'm posting this notice to invite feedback if there is any. I'll wait at least 48 hours, as it is suggested in this essay, before I consider any direct edits. But if anyone is watching this page and can help, please leave a comment or ask me a question here, and I'll try to help. Thanks. --Hydria (talk) 19:46, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Great, welcome on board! Agreed on what you said above.
Input on your suggestions:
1. Keep the citation and reference to the documentary. Now you have omitted the citation link to it and the name of the documentary.
2. Keep the info in current "Criminal and Civil violations" section.
In general, feel free to add as much as context you see necessary as far as they are properly cited. But please don't omit currently cited material. That is what I see lacking in your suggested edit. Farmanesh (talk) 14:52, 11 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Farmanesh! Glad that you agree most of this is better. I'll move the improved and new sections unrelated to the environmental, safety and legal issues over in a few moments. About "Criminal and Civil violations", most of the current section's details are in the "Environment and safety issues" section of the draft I wrote, but now that I compare them, I haven't got them all. (But overall I have added more information about those cases.) I'll plan to update the details from the current section in mine, and once that is done, do you think it would be fine to replace then? Let me know. Thanks. --Hydria (talk) 18:08, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have now added and updated everything from my draft. I was careful to keep the paragraph about the documentary, and the heading and material under "Criminal and civil violations". I think it fits well enough with the rest of what I had written, although it might be a little redundant in some places. Feel free to have a look at it and see what you would like to do with it. Thanks for your assistance! --Hydria (talk) 18:48, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
