Notability

[edit]

The school was notable in the unique education program it offered for its time, and also for the content of some of the courses offered.

There was class in futuristics (futures studies). Abraham Maslow and Alvin Toffler inspired the design of the educational program.

The educational program was design to offer students more choices in the educational program, as well as practical training (internships) at local institutions and businesses.

(I was a student at a high school in Ohio, that offered a "futures studies" course, where we learned various forecasting and analysis techniques such as the Delphi method, Cross impact matrices, etc. Pretty interesting stuff for a 9th grader.

I can't speak for M-T school alumni, but what was valuable about our program was the idea that the future isn't fixed, our actions in the present will have long-term consequences. Any well-designed futures program should prepare its graduates for a more rapidly changing future, and give them the tools for anticipating change and consequences.
