Abbreviated School History?
[edit]It is important not to forget those student alumni who made important contributions to the structure of what Marmion Academy is today. DavidMSA (talk) 04:43, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- When editing Wikipedia, it is important that some things are forgotten. This is a general-scope encyclopedia, not a school alumni newsletter; neither "notable alumni" or any other section of an article is appropriate as an internal hall of fame. If people are notable inside a school's own community, the school and others have their own web sites available for that without Wikipedia. Indeed, there are a couple whole sections in this article whose level of notability and level of third party reliable sources don't seem to warrant their size. On another note: It is also important on Wikipedia that decisions about articles not be driven by those with a conflict of interest, such as the people mentioned in the article or their friends or associates. It appears have been a problem with this article recently. As with all Wikipedia articles, people should focus their efforts on providing citations of reliable third party-sources without a direct stake in the facts being presented, and possibly removing those parts that don't have such citations or whose cited sources don't establish the importance of those facts in a general encyclopedia. --Closeapple (talk) 11:53, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Statistical Information on Classes after 2005?
[edit]Why is the statistical information on the class of 2004-2005 still up on this page? There are few if any citations for most of the content in this article. DavidMSA (talk) 22:32, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Good question! Surely there are newer statistics from a reliable source. If nothing else, the Illinois State Board of Education requires student counts to be reported to them, and I seem to remember they have a giant spreadsheet on their web site with every school's stats. --Closeapple (talk) 11:53, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Article Would Be Stronger With 3rd Party Verification
[edit]Not to beat a dead horse but there aren't really any true 3rd party sources for the entire article. What do people think about going through old area newspapers to provide verification? I was thinking about using yearbooks but would those even be considered real 3rd party sources? It seems to me that any source published by Marmion is going to only be a circular proof, something which would be challenged in other wikipedia articles. I'm interested in hearing what others think about this. DavidMSA (talk) 13:57, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
