Hello,
I am a great son of Gilbert Pongo and never heard about a child named Aimée Pongo.
This is an horrible mistake.
Who you called Aimée was Alfrid Pongo Nlandu, a singer just like you wrote.
She took the name of M'Pongo Love for some reasons.
But, my granny said that as her father was involved in the capture of Lumumba and to avoid her career be dammaged by this affair and also by the fear of Mobutu regime (who was a friend of our family in the past, before independance but letting down our grandpa who was supposed to be exchanged with Lumumba), she followed the advice of Mpompo Lowai, her mentor and saxophone musician at her begining.
The "M" before M'Pongo was meant to hide the occurence of Pongo lineage.
However, Mobutu knew about her and walk away since she was not a thread. People worried alot for no reasons and, he was not so evil.
Merely, he took care about them since his first wife was teached by granny and he was a close friend during the colonial time.
Aimé is probably an traduction of Love (Aimée in french).
You need to update your copy.
Also, Gilbert Pongo had three children by my great mother.
Joseph Cyril Pongo, my father (still alive), born in Boma, June 24, 1952.
He is engineering and worked in Texaco before Americans leave Congo in 1985 in several.
Since 2006, he is involved in the rehabilitation of Barrage d'Inga, the first great hydroelectrical power plant in Congo and in some bridges survey.
The second child was M'Pongo Love.
And the last was Willy Pongo born in June 30 1959, exactly one year to the day before independence. He passed away in 2015.
He was 2 years old when his father was killed in Kisangani.
After that, our granny get married and had children with men.
Unfortunately, they died or, sometimes divorced.
She had Roger, Alain, Gigi and Dawili. Four relationship with one child at a time.
If you need more information, Dad was writing a book (in french) about our family.
