Image review

  1. File:Louisamakmarch2024.png - Source is YouTube, license is CC-BY.
  2. File:Louisamak2019.png - Source is YouTube, license is CC-BY
  3. File:Louisa-Mak-Red-Dress-Event.jpg - I'm seeing very similar images from the same series on other Chinese media sites (example). The uploader was previously brought to ANI for copyright issues, which makes me very iffy on this one. It's a shame, too – this is an excellent shot. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 17:39, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also saw the discussion on ANI while searching for images on Commons. It seems the uploader insisted it was their own work. I am not sure if written permission has actually been submitted to the VRT, or if just no one has followed up on the case. But nevermind, I will take down the photo for now.  DonePrince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 07:50, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Prose review and comprehensiveness

[edit]
  • I'm seeing a mix of British (neighbourhood, honours) and American (honor, program). Consistency is needed. MOS:TIES points to Hong Kong English, where the British spellings remain official.

Lede

[edit]
  • I'm seeing a lot of films that could productively be made into redlinks using {{ill}}. I see that you have done so with the filmography section. Is there any reason for leaving the lede text black?
I usually avoid adding red links/interlanguage links in the lead because it is meant to be concise and clear, and a sea of black, blue, and red will affect readability imo. But I can add them if you think it is necessary.  DonePrince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 07:50, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Early life

[edit]
  • had the honor of welcoming Chinese astronaut Yang Liwei on behalf of Hong Kong - "had the honor" is not neutral. "Was selected" or something similar would be better.

Entertainment career

[edit]
  • HKCEE - You introduced it in the previous section, but never provided a parenthetical to indicate its abbreviation. As such, readers may not know that this has been introduced.
Perhaps I should write it in full instead of using an abbreviation?  DonePrince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 07:50, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • as a perfect scorer in the HKCEE - a bit choppy. What about "as having received a perfect score in the HKCEE"
DonePrince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 07:50, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • the round of five - is this the fifth round, or a round including only five contestants?
Done. It should be a round with the last five contestants. I changed it to "eliminated in an early round before making it to the top five", which sounds less confusing and better aligns with the source. —Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 07:50, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • "mere HK$1,600" - If we're saying "mere", it would be worth including a conversion in a major international currency

Source review

[edit]
  • I have spotchecked Refs 8, 39, 73, 92, and not seen any issues (39 uses the old name of Dolce Vita, based on our article on that program).
  • Earwig's copyvio detector will not work with these foreign-language sources. I will AGF on them.

Conclusion

[edit]

On hold Overall, this is very close to ready. Just a few nitpicks, mostly, though that one image gives me pause. Also, please note that I edited the article while reviewing. Please review to confirm no meanings have been changed. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 18:09, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the copyediting! Everything looks good, but I am a bit concerned about the edit regarding Mak's engagement in the Personal Life section. Without specifying that Mak is female and Shing is male, I think it might confuse readers as to why this is considered an act of breaking traditional gender roles. —Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 07:50, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Prince of Erebor. My thought was, we've established that Louisa is a woman from the get-go (she, her, and the name is traditionally feminine). Keith is traditionally a masculine name, and Hong Kong/China does not come to mind immediately as allowing same-sex marriage. The implication is there. That being said, if you feel that it's important to emphasize their respective sexes, feel free to add it back.  — Chris Woodrich (talk) 12:53, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Chris, thanks for your thorough review of the article! I have revised the article based on your suggestions. Please check! —Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 07:50, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
