Does the new name need the disambiguating parenthetical?

[edit]

It doesn't look like there's another "Lynwood station" with an article, though there is Lynnwood Transit Center. --Jfruh (talk) 22:07, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

When I renamed the page to “Lynwood station” from “Long Beach Blvd”, it redirects us to Lynwood Pacific Electric Railway Depot. That’s why I added the “Los Angeles Metro” in parenthesis. It was like that when
I was editing the pages earlier. PuppyCatBree (talk) 05:42, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I'd argue that it doesn't need the parenthetical according to WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. This station is clearly the primary topic, and doesn't need a differentiating parenthetical, which are usually reserved for articles which aren't the primary topic with their article titles. The Lynwood Pacific Electric Railway Depot is a historical facet that not most users are going to be familiar with, and the modern station gets the bulk of pageviews and searches anyhow. Besides, I've just noticed that you've changed the redirect target of Lynwood station to this article. I think just having Lynwood station as the article title plus a hatnote at the top of this article disambiguating Lynnwood Transit Center and Lynwood Pacific Electric Railway Depot would suffice. It was like that when I tried renaming "Long Beach Blvd" to "Lakewood". The person that created the "Lakewood station" page in 2020, and redirected to a former Pacific Electric Railway station from a century ago, did not know that "Long Beach Blvd" (the C Line station) would be renamed. For sure. PuppyCatBree (talk) 21:01, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I look at it, it seems as the original Lynwood Pacific Electric Railway Depot was in roughly the same location as the modern Metro Rail station (the adjacent stations module in the infobox even lists the former Pacific Electric services.) Perhaps we could even just merge the two pages together and just have the article title of "Lynwood station" with no disambiguating parenthetical, and a disambiguating hatnote to Lynnwood Transit Center in the lead? Let's do it. PuppyCatBree (talk) 19:12, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
