Added Information about 12th November Fire

[edit]

I added information about a fire that broke out near the stadium on the 12th November 2007 - article is here:[[1]]

I perhaps expect this will become a seperate article anyway if the fire continues. DBAlex 15:11, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The fire (an abandoned warehouse, due for demolition) is almost definitely non-notable. Lots of good pictures for the news people, but by tomorrow, will not be of interest. Only possibility of something meriting inclusion is if the rumours of asbestos are true and people are injured (hope not of course). Furthermore, it's not on the stadium site, more like the Multi-sport arenas. Paulbrock 18:34, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed the section. I don't think it's noteworthy and even if it is, this isn't the right page for it. Paulbrock 12:38, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Criticsms

[edit]

Unless I have missed it elsewhere on Wikipedia, I am surprised that the criticisms of the design of the main building have not been included here. I have not included the public response - which, from some of the articles I have read, have been less than positive. Johnny.d2007 15:50, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the addition - I think we need some more sources though - to say "critics claim that:" when the source is an editorial with one person's opinion, may be pushing it. Paulbrock (talk) 19:01, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BIAS

[edit]

The 'reaction' section is horribly bias. There is a quick one line introduction and then a list of criticisms. Hardly a balanced view! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.112.37.49 (talk) 16:20, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe worth a mention is that this is the first olympic stadium in modern times where construction has caused zero deaths (http://blog.pksafety.com/safety-in-olympic-stadium-construction-earns-award/ http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/other-sports/london-2012-olympic-park-to-receive-833783) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.90.6.195 (talk) 11:45, 6 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orientation

[edit]

Anyone can tell something about the orientation (positioning?) of the Stadium? I think it could be interesting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.29.227.11 (talk) 13:36, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge "New West Ham Stadium"

[edit]

Given that the Olympic Stadium will be the "New West Ham Stadium", I don't think it's right to have a separate page, when the options for West Ham can be included as a section in this article. Hammersfan (talk) 13:33, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is more to this than the former Olympic site and this article is quite long. Other options are mentioned so I would personally leave them as they are. Britmax (talk) 17:18, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This was not the same site as the Olympic Stadium and a completely different project which is now shelved. Is unrelated to the Olympic Stadium.--Egghead06 (talk) 21:07, 13 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose - Different article as it mentions three different proposals, one of which is the stadium. Would be the wrong place to put the other info on this article. Keep as it is. Feudonym (talk) 16:00, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Transport

[edit]

Any reason why there is no info on the transport network and moving people and vehicles to and from the stadium? Atlas-maker (talk) 10:53, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rename to London Stadium?

[edit]

The name seems to have settled on London Stadium[1][2]. Is it time to rename the article? Andrew (talk) 15:20, 10 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not yet. Where they differ, we tend to use common names rather than official names, unless there's a particularly good reason. If this rebranding sticks and people are calling it 'London Stadium', then we can move it, but for now it's clearly best known as Olympic Stadium. --Super Nintendo Chalmers (talk) 19:42, 10 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Now (2019) it's known as the London Stadium, e.g. referred to in TfL transport news. So I had to look it up to find out where it was. Could we have some commentary on how the name was chosen and when it was applied? Why wasn't it called the Stratford Stadium, for example? Matt Whyndham (talk) 07:08, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Update name of the stadium operation

[edit]

Good Morning,

London Legacy Development Company (LLDC) has awarded the contract to London Stadium 185 ltd (VINCI Stadium subsidiary) to operate the stadium. http://queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk/news/news-articles/2015/2/mayor-announces-vinci-appointed-as-operator-for-former-olympic-stadium Could the name of the stadium operator be updated?

add transportation section in sync with the upcoming stadium website

[edit]

The stadium is a public transportation venue first.

Would it be possible to add a subsection about tube and trains, on top of the bus existing one. Information in sync with Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park guidelines can be found here http://www.london-stadium.com/plan-your-visit/gettinghere

Response

[edit]

Thanks for the requests @EtienneSoumoy:. I've updated the operator and the transport guidelines. What we can't do is update the images - please see Wikipedia's image policy. What's important is that our images are released under some form of free use licence, so that our information can be copied freely for others to share. While we'd like to update the images, we'll need the copyright owner to release the image under a suitable licence. If you're from Vinci and the images belong to your company, then you can chose to release one or more images for us to use if you want - the easiest way to do this is probably to upload the file yourself and then let us know here so that we can add it to the page.

I hope that all makes sense. Thanks for showing caution in editing a page that you're connected to: we don't recommend that people or companies edit their own pages, so thank if there's anything else you want to discuss then raising it here is probably appropriate. If you're struggling to get a reply at any point, then putting the request on your user page with the {{adminhelp}} tag will get you some assistance! Several changes

[edit]

Hello

I wanted to submit several changes

STADIUM TOURS You mention in "stadium interior" that LLDC is considering organising tours. It has been validated and will start this summer (probably Aug). Could we have it in a separate section to call it our at currently no visitor would look into "stadium interior" to find intel about tours

STADIUM OPERATOR It is written that VINCI operates Parc des Princes. No this belongs to a Qatar Hedge Funds. Instead VINCI Stadium operates Stade de France, Allianz Riviera, Matmut Atlantique and MM Arena Information can be found here http://www.vinci-concessions.com/en/what-we-do/stadiums/

STADIUM INTERIOR The new pitch has been seeded recently to be ready to host first West Ham Game http://www.whufc.com/News/Articles/2016/June/8-June/Stadium-seeding-starts

STADIUM STORE AND COFFEE SHOP A new store and coffee shop has just now opened http://www.whufc.com/News/Articles/2016/June/23-June/Hammers-cut-ribbon-at-new-Stadium-Store

UPCOMING EVENTS The stadium hosts like last year the great newham run this summer http://www.greatrun.org/great-newham-london-run

We now know there will be a friendly game West Ham v Juventus on Aug 7 http://www.whufc.com/Tickets/Match-Tickets/Event/West-Ham-United-v-Juventus

And the FA has released the 2016/17 fixtures table http://www.thefa.com/news/2016/jun/english-football-league-fixtures-220616 http://www.whufc.com/Fixtures/First-Team/Fixture-and-Results

CORPORATE EVENTS/ PRIVATE PARTIES Could we mention somewhere that the stadium will be available for hiring for corporate events and private parties later this year?

PICTURE I have uploaded my first pic FloodlitLondonStadium.jpg. I am not sure I did the right thing, so please let me know if I need to amend.

Last I think it is sometimes confusing to distinguishing between the stadium as it was for London 2012, and the stadium now. Would it be worth having 2 separate design subsections?

Thank you EtienneEtienneSoumoy (talk) 05:27, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the picture. I've made several of the changes and have tried to rationalise the article a bit, which had a lot of design detail. There are a few things we won't add though; the article is meant to be a permanent record of the most important things about the stadium, so it's not the place to list forthcoming events, unless these are of particular note. Similarly, it's not our place to highlight current commercial activities eg the coffee shop, corporate events and tours, beyond a brief note that they occur: we can add these in when they start. What I have done on that front is added a link to [2] (btw - you really should stick with the name 'Olympic Stadium', it's much better!), so that people looking for current commercial information can go there. England to bid for RFL 2021 world cup

[edit]

Hello

Would it be possible to add that England is bidding for RFL 2021 World Cup, and London Stadium is one of the feature stadia. http://www.rugby-league.com/article/37870/england-to-bid-for--rugby-league-world-cup

Minor changes

[edit]

Hello

Would it be possible to add the following items:

- Pitch size: it is a normal Premier League approved pitch 105 by 68 metres (115 by 74 yd) - Surface: can we spell out Desso's full name Desso GrassMaster and add a link https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Desso_GrassMaster - Website: could you please call out the website URL www.london-stadium.com like for Wembley (bottom of right panel https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wembley_Stadium) - Operator: could you replace VINCI Stadium by London Stadium 185 ltd which is the company specifically created by VINCI Stadium to operate London Stadium http://www.vinci-concessions.com/en/what-we-do/stadiums/ - Transport section: would it be possible to add a table with the different TFL lines like for Wembley - Transport : same for bus, it is great on Wembley's page - Transport: I have a map with the access routes to the stadium. Where can I upload it to be used on this page? - Football: the fixture table for 2016/17 Premier League season has now been announce. Is it possible to add a table with upcoming West Ham matches planned at the stadium? http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/news/2016-17/jun/2016-2017-premier-league-fixture-list.html

Thanks a lot BR EtienneEtienneSoumoy (talk) 10:58, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Etienne (sorry for the slow replies - I have been away). Pitch size, surface, website, operator and note on RLWC all done.
For transport, the table from Wembley cannot be replicated exactly due to the slightly different set-up of stations in the area, but I've tried to produce something comparable. I'll endeavor to add bus routes at some point.
The map can be uploaded in the same way that you uploaded the photograph - again, you'll need to release the copyright.
To retierate with the fixture list; Wikipedia doesn't function as 'listings' page so we won't add details of all events at the stadium. The function of an encyclopedia article is to highlight key points and matches, and weekly Premier League games don't meet this standard. Super Nintendo Chalmers (talk) 08:56, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Live Nation just announced that Depeche Mode will play in the stadium on 3 June 2017. http://www.livenation.co.uk/show/892345/depeche-mode/london/2017-06-03/en

Olympic Stadium (London)London Stadium – When it was previously suggested that the article be moved to the stadium's current official name, it was thought at the time that it was too soon to see if the name would catch on. It is now clear that the London Stadium name is overwhelmingly used by sources, such as the BBC [3], Telegraph [4], Guardian [5] and Sky Sports [6], for example. The Olympic Stadium name looks somewhat odd and outdated these days. Jellyman (talk) 16:19, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
