Is this article even needed?
[edit]A category would work just fine. As a member of the Wine project, I have to admit this article seems as useful as List of restaurants in Missouri or List of artists from St. Louis. AgneCheese/Wine 22:31, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
The page helps fill out the navbox for 'Lists of wineries in the United States by political division'. Also, It contains more information than the category. You may have a point though. I think you might be implying that the navbox isn't needed at all. I think that argument would be better made on the talk page for the template, but there doesn't seem to be one. I was going to point you in that direction, but I couldn't figure out how to get there. The 'd' that normally takes you to the template talk page takes you here: Template talk:United States topic If you can figure out the place to discuss this, let me know here and I'll participate in the discussion. - Yeah that nav box is totally not needed. It is also very bizarrely coded. None of the View/Discuss/Edit links in the top left hand corner go to the actual template page. I have no idea who created this template. AgneCheese/Wine 04:13, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
Related Several of the articles in the nav box do not conform to the guidelines in WP:LIST for an encyclopedic list article. I've nominated these articles for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of wineries and vineyards in Maine. I did not nominate this article in the AfD because it appears to conform to WP:LIST, however I retain my skepticism for its usefulness to the reader. Overall, I think the issues regarding these "list of wineries" articles is one that I think needs more light and discussion from the community on. AgneCheese/Wine 04:49, 3 November 2009 (UTC)
Expanded list
[edit]Someone had started to expand the list and then left a long list appended to the bottom of the page outside of the table. It looks like this is the list from the Missouri Wine & Grape Board (see http://missouriwine.org/wineries). I went ahead and added them all to the list. The list is now likely way to long and too many red links, but maybe this will encourage some others to stub out a few of the larger wineries. Also I suspect some of these "wineries" are really just theme restaurants, but if the state calls them a winery, then I guess they are a winery.HornColumbia talk 02:32, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
Audit 8.14.20
[edit]I went through the list with the criteria of 'do they have an active website?'. I removed wispering oaks and wineflower. There were a few more that hadn't updated their site in years. I sent a few emails. If they let me know they are inactive, I will remove them too. HornColumbia talk 23:34, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Correct problems, don't delete
[edit]The problem is not that these lists should not exist, but rather than they should not link to the winery websites and should instead have third-party references. Take List of wineries in New Mexico as an example. Every winery without an article has a citation to a newspaper review of a wine or the winery. This is sufficient to establish notability in a list, they don't have to be notable enough for a standalone article to be included in the list. This was established in the AfD discussion for that list.
Note, I personally don't like the table format for this, in a strange way it actually encourages expansion. Better to break the list into recognized subregions within the state. Skyerise (talk) 17:40, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
