MOE's list
[edit]The last link above (The MOE's list of Institutions of Higher Learning: http://www.moe.edu.cn/ewebeditor/uploadfile/2012/03/06/20120306092426358.xls) should be considered as the official (for now) list to follow. It lists 117 institutions in Guangdong, of which 39 are undergraduate universities and 78 are junior colleges. Of those 39 universities, 2 are under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education, 1 is under the administration of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, and 4 are under the administration of the Department of Education, Guangdong Province. The rest are under the direct administration of Guangdong Province, and certainly seemed to be considered in equal terms, according to this reference. Ideally, all 39 universities could be added to this article to make it complete. AndreGallant (talk) 20:32, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Kindly STOP Vandalising and Befuddling the Issue, a College Is NOT a University
[edit]User:AndreGallant, do stop with pushing fake information. A college is NOT a university. These are two different words in English, just as they are in Chinese.
A college is a 学院 in Chinese and it is in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY inferior to a genuine university, i.e. a 大学. A 学院 is compounded of 学 = study, learning, and 院 = space, environment, therefore: a school, a college. 大学 is composed of 大 = great and 学 = learning, i.e. Great School.
These two are NOT interchgangeable at your whim. A college is NOT a university, and that goes for Huizhou College, which you have mostly been promoting in your time on Wikipedia (it is 90+% of all your edits), as well as Foshan College and the Medical School there on the list. All those are just colleges. So kindly STOP VANDALISING for personal gain (because on Huizhou "University" page you have claimed to be an employee of the said school). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.67.115.116 (talk) 04:55, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- Apparently, it's referred to as a university in english. Look at the references. See also WP:COMMONNAME. TippyGoomba (talk) 05:19, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
- In English, it is not as simple as 113.67.115.116. Especially in American English, college is usually synonymous with University. Harvard and Yale both refer to themselves as colleges despite being famous universities. Oxford and Cambridge Universities in England are a collection of colleges. For example: Queen's College Cambridge. 192.184.34.186 (talk) 05:32, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
