[edit]I have never seen a 500m prominence used for the Sierra Nevada before. Usually it is 100-300m. The prominence wiki suggests US 14ers traditionally go by prominences of 300', but since this is metric that may not be appropriate. The list as it currently stands pretty much limits to one peak per range, with a few exceptions like Williamson.
The Palisades range is a good example here. Most mountaineering groups consider 100'/30m prominence for these, which leads to four distinct peaks along the North Palisade crest alone. Mt Muir, a sub-peak of Mt. Whitney, is another example. This criterion strikes me as not being restrictive enough. On the other hand, the current list on this page exclude very major mountains separated by several miles from their parents and dominant over their surroundings - Middle Palisade, Split Mountain, Mt. Langley, and to a lesser extent Mt. Tyndall come to mind. I have heard of mountaineering sources using 7-8% of the area peak heights to normalize prominence to the range. By this measure, I would suggest a 300m prominence for the Sierra 4000m peaks. This results in the following list (elevations are from peakbagger.comCite error: The <ref>
tag has too many names (see the help page).), bold peaks are the added ones:

At least for the one's I am familiar with, it would be pretty hard to argue that any of these is a "sub-peak" of another. 209.233.12.98 (talk) 05:24, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
