Akaiwa Station 赤岩駅(あかいわ), closed stations

[edit]

@Sushiya Thanks for your help with this!

I hope that I can be helpful in maintaining these pages and am trying to understand the criteria for links on the page. I really appreciate your help.

It seems that both open, and closed stations are listed on this page. Is that understanding correct? Ex, Aizan Station 愛山駅(あいざん), Akaiwa Station 赤岩駅(あかいわ, Akatsuka Station (Shimane) 明塚駅(あかつか)etc. If that is not the case, should we be deleting these links?

Also, when there is a Japanese page but no English page, it looks like the standard way it is handled is that the Japanese page is linked and the English link goes to a "create page" link, as with Akasaki Station (Iwate), Akasako Station, Akitakamotsu Station, etc.

If my understanding above is correct, then can we handle Akaiwa Station 赤岩駅(あかいわ) the same way we handle other links?

Cheers! Jpgeek (talk) 23:55, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In my understanding, there are no criteria of listing shared by the participants other than to list all train stations in Japan.
Let me explain the history of the list. The list was created in 2005 from an unknown data source, possibly a list of active stations. Since then, all stations newly opened were added (with some exceptions such as some tram stops), but those closed were removed or kept randomly. On the other hand, stations not in the original list and closed in the past have not been added to the list (with small number of exceptions if any).
Your recent edit was to replace the line of Akaiwa Station with Akaiwa Station (Fukushima) and Akaiwa Station (Nagano). At this time, the Akaiwa Station article had not been moved to Akaiwa Station (Fukushima) (which move I would oppose to as I explained in Talk:Akaiwa Station#Disambiguation) so that the link to an existing article was eliminated and links to non-existing articles were created. As my aim is that all articles for active stations be linked from this article, I reverted your edit. Sushiya (talk) 08:26, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply.
Would you oppose the creation of Akaiwa Station (Nagano)?
My goal was to make the English list match the Japanese list more closely and include stations missing from the English side. Jpgeek (talk) 03:59, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't oppose the creation of an article for Akaiwa Station (Nagano) and, after the creation of the article, its listing in this article. However, please note, it is not the purpose of English Wikipedia to match the Japanese counterpart. If your intention is to add a lot of red links, I think such an act would be not constructive.
