Verification Template
[edit]I've added it as some of the people listed, such as Richard Bacon and Bruce Dickinson were not born in or close to Nottingham but much further north in Nottinghamshire. However, I don't know if they are residents of the city. 86.159.234.207 19:13, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Rimington large.jpg
[edit]Image:Rimington large.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Pruning the list
[edit]I've tried to raise the level for inclusion on the list. Please don't take offence if you think I've taken out somebody who should still be on there. Hundreds of professional footballers have been born near Nottingham so I think only full internationals should be included automatically. Bevo74 (talk) 12:19, 19 April 2009 (UTC) Added lots of references, hopefully they are sufficient. Bevo74 (talk) 18:15, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Notable
[edit]Hi. I have replaced "well-known" in this article's opening sentence with "notable". I feel this is more appropriate as Wikipedia:Notability is the general benchmark for inclusion in Wikipedia and it seems to me to be sensible to use it in this article too. I would also point out that "well-known" and "notable" are not synonymous and using the former may lead to confusion - not least because Wikipedia there is no established measure of the former, either in this article or more generally in Wikipedia. Without wishing to labour the point, I feel that it is more than possible to be notable without being well-known. Rje (talk) 02:07, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- Having said all that, I do accept that footballers are a problem due to their sheer number. That notwithstanding, I still feel that "well-known" is problematic - I have added the Sandby brothers, who are hardly well-known these days, but, as founder members of the Royal Academy, were important in their fields and are strongly associated with the city of their birth. I'm not sure that there is an easy solution to this one... Rje (talk) 02:17, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- I noticed in List of people from Sheffield they list people born in or near Sheffield in bold and those associated with normally. Perhaps this could lead to the wider inclusion on this list?
- Again, notability is a point. However, people who spend/spent a long or significant (in what they do/did) period of time in Nottingham maybe should be included.
- Also York has a city and county page of people from. Nottinghamshire doesn't have a page. Without meaning to be rude (being a city dweller), not as much goes on in the county, perhaps creating a list here wouldn't be as useful as including it on the city one? "Near" Nottingham
[edit]I see that User:Bevo74 has removed a few people from Newark-on-Trent, as not being "near" Nottingham, whereas some from Retford and Worksop remain on the list. I'm for keeping everyone from Notts on this list as there is no list for the county, but if other geographical bounds are being suggested, please say clearly what they are. Bmcln1 (talk) 20:15, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
The page was split from Nottingham, so to me should just include the Nottingham conurbanation (or less), if there are people from Retford and Worksop, I missed them being added. Newark does have its own notable person list. Best wishes Bevo74 (talk) 20:23, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
There's logic in that. You mean Nottingham + Rushcliffe + Broxtowe + Gedling? Alternatively there is Nottingham Urban Area. Perhaps the lead to the list should define the area. I hope the ones coming off the list can be translated lovingly to the places where they belong. Bmcln1 (talk) 20:32, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
