Land area/density stats are incorrect
[edit]The land area stats are wrong, what's listed is actually the total area (incl water area). And the density is wrong too, since the standard way to compute density is to divide population over land area.edg2103 (talk) 20:12, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
Area
[edit]I would love to see a sortable Area column added to the list. Don't know how to do it myself, thanks.Armandtanzarian (talk) 20:12, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
Too many on the list
[edit]The list needs to be edited. The list includes various geographic entities that are not municipalities. New Jersey has 566 municipalities (the list is longer).

Titusville missing
[edit]FYI: Titusville is missing from the list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.93.134.151 (talk) 18:06, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
- Titusville, New Jersey is an area within Hopewell Township, Mercer County, New Jersey, and is not a municipality with a defined border and government. Alansohn (talk) 18:11, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Princeton
[edit]The Borough of Princeton and Princeton Township have united and are no longer separate. --Cessator (talk) 02:30, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
- The vote happened but the merger does not take effect until 2013. Until then, they remain separate municipalities. NJZombie (talk) 20:48, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Date of incorporation?
[edit]Is there any possibility of adding a new column to this table that listed the date that the city, town, borough or township was founded? I was surprised to find out how long ago the town I visited was founded and was curious to know what the oldest towns in New Jersey were. Liz Read! Talk! 18:07, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Proposal to Migrate to Template:Wikidata list
[edit]This page looks like a great candidate to use Template:Wikidata list. Not all the data is in Wikidata right now, however here's a query that shows it's possible, and could be easier to maintain in the long run. It could even be extended to show attributes like, current mayor or area. Any thoughts? Acebarry (talk) 03:03, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- I realized I should have just made a sandbox page! It's not exactly what should show up (the sort is wrong, numbers need to be formatted, wikilinks are wrong), but it's a start User:Acebarry/sandbox/List of municipalities in New Jersey Acebarry (talk) 03:30, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- It would be great to standardize this page to the format of the featured lists for other states: Alabama, Alaska,Arizona, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Carolina. Except with 2020 and 2010 census data instead of 2010 and 2000 which will shortly become out of date. Mattximus (talk) 02:45, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Add a Change template column after the 2020/2010 populations
[edit]It would be nice to have the change percentage after the populations to show how much the cities have grown, like the one the US cities list has. I just don't really know how to apply it to every single municipality without doing each one individually, 565 is way too many. If anyone knows how to do this, it would be appreciated.
- Agree, it would then match up with the dozens or so featured lists of municipalities. Maybe something like this? No need for "rank" and the settled date column was full of blanks, so removed. What do you think? Mattximus (talk) 14:02, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
Name | Type | County | Population (2020)[1] | Population (2010)[2] | Change | Land area[1] | Population density[3] | Form of government | Incorporated[4] | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
sq mi | km2 | |||||||||
Newark | City | Essex | 311,549 | 277,140 | +12.4% | 25.885 | 67.04 | 12,035.9/sq mi (4,647.1/km2) | Faulkner Act (mayor–council) | 1693[note 1] |
I think the rank is helpful and should stay, and i feel like the settled date is still nice to have since we have towns settled over a century before they were incorporated. I think just adding the change percentage would be good addition, I just don't know how to apply it to every single one all at once --Hij802 (talk) 04:14, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
- See the full list based on the above here, though I'd probably remove the "scope="row"" formatting for the muni names if all agree —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 22:49, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- Wow! Mr. Matté This is perfect, it is certainly an improvement to what is there now. I say be bold and go for it. The rank is redundant because you can sort by population or area whatever you choose. Settled is nice to have but should only be included if we have all the dates and we do not unfortunately. So this is perfect! As a side note, is there an easy way to alphabetize the list? Mattximus (talk) 01:57, 23 August 2021 (UTC)
Without objection, the table as I described in my response above has been added to the article. I note the absence of Eatontown, Tinton Falls, Lakewood Township (only CDP shown), Jackson Township, and a part of Haddon Township from the interactive map.
