Updated table, but need help with formatting

Hello, I have updated the rankings and numbers on the table to match that of the latest available data provided by Social Blade, but because I'm not too good at the formatting of it all, the table with the changes I made comes out looking... not good, to say the least.

If there is anyone who is better versed in the formatting of wiki tables who would be willing to upload the table in the article so that it both includes my updates and is formatted properly, that would be much appreciated.

The raw wikitext of the table (as I have changed it) is attached below:

Rounding process and data collecting problem

I just really don't know why the subscriber counts have been rounded, recently data-visualization YouTubers are using this article to visualize how many subscribers they had in the past with accurate data.

I would stop rounding subscriber counts from million-unit and show numbers from API if I could. (Which is still up for 3 digits :/) --Mitumitu Page (talk) 19:02, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Itz not the proper list

So many other channels are there to include in these 2409:4073:95:C6C9:0:0:2309:20A5 (talk) 09:19, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

I am not sure what you are referring too, but the list criteria states "Automatically-generated channels that lack their own videos (such as Music and News) and channels that have been made effectively obsolete as a result of the transferral of their content (such as JustinBieberVEVO and RihannaVEVO) are excluded." So this means that the actual second, fifth and seventh most subscribed YouTube channels (YouTube Movies with 146M, Music with 115M and Gaming with 91.4M respectively) are not included, for example. What is a "brand channel"?

What is the meaning of the "brand channel" column in the table? How is this determined? JustAWikipedianToo (talk) 14:04, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

  • Very good question. That should be defined in the paragraph above, but it is not. I think it means it is a corporate channel rather than an individual, but I'm not exactly sure. But yes, if we are going to make the claim that is is a "brand channel" (which is not a common expression), someone needs to define it in that above paragraph. MrBeast: brand or not?

The article lists MrBeast as a brand channel, but also makes not that he is the most subscribed individual user in the platform, which is a contradiction.

The article also doesn't define what constitutes as a "brand channel", so I am unsure on what change should be made. 2800:2161:5000:447:90EE:20BF:52DF:ECB0 (talk) 21:50, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

The usage of "brand" is bad, IMO. Anyone with over a million subscribers has a "brand", even if it's their own name. "MrBeast" is a brand, even if it wouldn't exist without Donaldson. Either the title of the column needs to be changed. Hexware (talk) 20:41, 7 January 2023 (UTC)

If I can start my own Youtube channel, called "MrBeast" then it's not a brand. If I can't then it's a brand. Mysticjay (talk) 01:16, 20 February 2023 (UTC)

That is his nationality, but he hasn't lived there for years. He moved to the UK and now lives in Japan, even having his country set as Japan on his channel. Abbreviations

So how are we going to determine exactly when MrBeast overtakes T-Series when we have abbreviations? it would just be

266M - 267M

267M - 267M

267M - 267M

268M - 267M

pretty much.

Although we do have daily and even ten-secondly data from the ViewStats live sub count, we won't know for sure what T-Series's subscriber count will be. Yfkjgkjgk (talk) 23:16, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

"Live sub counts" are not accurate and rely mostly on estimations. For the purposes of this article MrBeast will have overtaken T-Series when either his official sub count shown on his channel is higher than T-Series or when an official source confirms it. Jbvann05 19:50, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

MrBeast 1st or 2nd of June 2024 issue

So because of YouTube sub abbreviations it seems that is the reason the 2nd of June is being used as the date that MrBeast became number 1 but we all know this was done on June 1st. Is there a way someone can reach out to someone at YouTube and provide the exact subscriber numbers that T-Series had at the time as I feel this is an important date to have accurate on the Wikipedia page and the fact that it is one day off is not ideal. The following updates the information to include YouTube's own channel and MrBeast, it also puts all the most subscribed YouTube channels in the correct order of when they became the most subscribed YouTube channel: Since mid-2006, when Smosh occupied the top position with just 2,986 subscribers, at least 11 other YouTube channels have held the top spot; these include American public speaker Judson Laipply, American comedian Brooke "Brookers" Brodack, English geriatric Peter Oakley, American fictional character Bree "lonelygirl15" Avery, American comedian Ryan Higa, American fictional character Fred Figglehorn, American media personality Ray William Johnson, Swedish gamer Felix "PewDiePie" Kjellberg, YouTube's own channel "YouTube" (formerly YouTube Spotlight) at the time, Indian music record label T-Series, and American philanthropist MrBeast. Listing MrBeast as a brand channel

I believe MrBeast should be listed as a brand channel. However, I have noticed other editors disagree so I'm putting this on the talk page for discussion. I think he should be listed as a brand channel because he runs his own company to manage his channel, but I welcome opinions from other editors. ImTheAvidPheasant (talk) 15:40, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

What is a 'brand channel' and how do we define it? I assumed it was an individual personality (i.e. not a company), but looking at the list I see that we say 'Toys and Colours' and 'ZAMZAM ELECTRONICS TRADING' are not brand channels, but other channels like 'ChuChu TV Nursery Rhymes & Kids Songs' are. ❧ LunaEatsTuna (talk), making typograhpical erors sinse 2017 – posted at 21:18, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

MrBeast being a brand channel

I feel that MrBeast should be considered to be a brand channel, since it has expanded to include multiple people other than Donaldson and even has hired around 250 people to help work for the channel. There's also the burger chain and Feastables that use the name. Pyraminxsolver (talk)

This has been proposed a few times. Basically, the article is in really poor shape and does not provide a definition of 'brand channel', but basically most talk page discussions here have de facto agreed that it refers to a 'corporate' channel. Sure, MrBeast Holdings, LLC is a corporation, but the channel itself is technically Jimmy Donaldson's personal-owned YouTube channel. I mean, we would not calls Bill Gates' YouTube channel a 'brand account'. ❧ LunaEatsTuna (talk), proudly editing since 2018 (and just editing since 2017) – posted at 02:06, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Why does it say "No"? MrBeast is absolutely a brand channel, they even call themselves that("As the largest YouTube brand in the world (...)") Viliml (talk) 07:44, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

@Viliml: I think in this context, a 'brand' is supposed to be a company. MrBeast still owns his YouTube channel as an individual, regardless of how many employees he has. This is why Blackpink, a music group, is not a brand channel (despite probably being controlled by a manager) and neither is PewDiePie, who had a team of two editors and a producer. The other channels, like T-Series, SET India etc. are companies, not individual people. Imagine for example if Bill Gates had his own YouTube channel; he would own it as an individual channel, like MrBeast.

The information stating that MrBeast is not a brand-owned channel is false. Jimmy Donaldson runs a company dedicated solely to making content for the channel and promoting products with his face and branding on them such as Feastables, Lunchly, Beast Games (in cooperation with Amazon), and Beast Labs. The table should reflect this information by stating that he is a brand. I would do it myself, but I have no idea how to edit the template from No to Yes. The other channels, like T-Series, SET India etc. are companies, not individual people. Imagine, for example, if Bill Gates had his own YouTube channel; he would own it as an individual channel, just like MrBeast does.
The article should definitely explain this to avoid any further confusion, though. ❧ LunaEatsTuna (talk), proudly editing since 2018 (and just editing since 2017) – posted at 17:41, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for clarification. I thought that he should be considered a brand due to how his channel is. It is essentially a TV series and gameshow, but on YouTube due to the ludicrous budgets and production values his videos have in addition to the branded products and spin-offs such as Feastables, MrBeast Burger, Beast Games, Beast Labs, Lunchly, etc. PewDiePie does not have multiple dubbing studios and celebrity lawyers like Donaldson. PewDiePie only had two editors and a producer, not entire companies owned by him and constant sponsorships from brands Prime, Minecraft, and Shopify.
