[edit]this list is totally unruly as well as being alphabetized by first name ... it hardly seems worth it to rearrange it. it would be nice as a category except many/most of these fighters dont have pages. it isnt linked from much of anywhere important -- some pages of fighters, and the main MMA article. i am having trouble imagining how this list would be useful to someone -- even if you are trying to find a specific fighter but dont know his name, it wont necessarily help as it is far from complete and quite difficult to keep up to date.

Standards?
[edit]I have serious reservations about this article - what are the standards for inclusion here? Frankly, there's not way we can verify virtually any of these people. Can anyone help me out here? --Haemo 11:43, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
There are several ways to check MMA credentials. The easiest is probably to go to www.sherdog.com and type the person's name into the fightfinder on the upper left hand corner - all major sanctioned professional fights outside of the former USSR areas are recorded on Sherdog and they are doing their best to catch up on the Eastern European stuff. The standard here seems to just be having fought in a sanctioned professional fight in MMA and being a male. Of course, this list is eventually going to end up huge and will need to be reorganized but for the time being, I don't seen anything wrong with it. (RookZERO 04:42, 17 March 2007 (UTC))
As far as standards go I would suggest a basic requirement of somewhere between 10-15 fights and/or a period of 2-3 years as a professional minimum. Beyond that the fighter should have participated in a major organization, you can see the List of current mixed martial arts champions page that I have been overseeing lately, and it's talk section for a list of what could qualify an organization as major. This would tighten this list up a little at least to only busy fighters who are fighting at a reasonably high level. Without guidelines like that this article is close to useless.Thaddeus Venture (talk) 19:26, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]I've begun a cleanup effort, albeit it's going to go slowly, of course. I'm adding refs to all the red-links (the blue links should be sourced already within their respective articles) and am filtering out those not in Sherdog and those with unnotable records--ie, only fought in unheard of small shows. hateless 07:29, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- Obviously I did a lot of cleaning up through the summer... I removed loads of non-notable fighters, cited some, added some, and to help show notability I added notable organizations they have fought for. I'm going to continue keeping an eye on the list to keep it clean. Thesaddestday 09:15, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Sherdog.com?
[edit]Why is Sherdog.com the only citation used here? And why is it used so much? As many google ads as that site has, I am sure they appreciate all the accidental clicks, but this is kinda spammy. Pharmboy (talk) 03:49, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Look out
[edit]there's a lot of wannabes adding their names to the list because they think they're hot stuff!173.29.148.123 (talk) 05:05, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Hitler..?
[edit]So apparently Adolf is a male mixed martial artist :D Someone needs to clean up this article... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.212.30.86 (talk) 15:48, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- That was vandalism. Along with a lot of other names (Ima Faggot for example). I redid it to a version where i didn't see any.
Unmaintainable list?
[edit]We currently have 1708 names in the list (almost half, 817, are from the USA), and no criteria for deciding who can be added or removed.
I doubt the quality of this list, as well as its usefulness. We have categories that provide most or all of this info. Great floors (talk) 23:47, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
- I kind of agree with you. We put the link of this page on most UFC fighters but we do not add the UFC fighters to the page, so what is the point of it? Sorry if this reply got to you six years later, haha. Marty2Hotty (talk) 21:50, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- What is the point of this page? Many new fighters are added and released every year in the UFC alone. I think 100 new hires and 100 released. Should all be put onto this page? As people said, Sherdog or Tapology has a record of all fighters that have existed. There are a ton of promotions and it is impossible to have a database/list of 50000 fighters, right? I added 2024 fighters
[edit]Not all, but many from UFC and some from PFL. I didn't really do ONE and Rizin. Marty2Hotty (talk) 01:02, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
