Florence Green and Rose Cliver
I am not sure if Florence Green fits the criteria for this list since being the last Surviving World War I Veteran is still tied into Longevity, I thought this page was for Centenarians who are known for things that have no ties to Longevity.
I think the same can be said with Rose Cliver since once again what she is know for (being one of the last people to Survive the San Fransisco Earthquake) is still tied into Longevity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.98.19.20 (talk) 16:59, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
Redundancy
This article is unnecessary, the Lists of centenarians cover exactly the same subject. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 00:15, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Agreed, it's just a redundant content fork. I've nominated it for deletion, because there's no real place it could be redirected to or merged with. Canadian Paul 02:10, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
No, this article is different than Lists of centenarians because Lists of centenarians covers centenarians who are dead and alive while this one only covers living centenarians. This article is more direct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.54.193.30 (talk) 16:15, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Bunny Mellon and Elisabeth Murdoch
Possible Additions: Bunny Mellon, Paul Mellon's widow and important figure in the John Edwards political scandal. Nguyen Ngoc Tho
I checked the article and noticed Nguyen has been added. Is he even still alive? His Wiki page lists nothing past 1964 other than "his activities after leaving politics is not known". No 100th birthday report or anything. 121.222.85.170 (talk) 10:48, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
Leopold Engleitner
I removed Leopold Engleitner] since from his article, it seems he is not notable for anything other than his longevity. He spent time during WWII in concentration camps (as did many people). All the sources are in the last 10 years, when he was already considerably old. No sources it seems documenting how he was famous before old age. I therefore removed him because people entered here should be famous for reasons other than their longevity. People such as Harry Patch who were even given awards for their service and not included since they were not notable other than due to their longevity. If Engleitner is notable for reasons other than his longevity then there should be mentions of him prior to the late 1990s.. SiameseTurtle (talk) 14:35, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Centenarians with articles on non-English Wikipedia?
Hello,
A suggestion that I would like to put forward is that we could add to this list centenarians who have Wikipedia articles in other languages, and include links to them, rather like this:
Name | Born | Age | Notability |
---|---|---|---|
{{Interlanguage link multi|Elena Lucena|es|3=Elena Lucena}} | 1914 | 110 years, 69 days | Argentine actress, singer, and dancer |
The person above certainly seems to be notable, in her own country at least. So would it not be a good idea to include her? It could also encourage people to create new articles on the English Wikipedia.
Ollie231213 (talk) 11:55, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
- I support such an extension because the subject of centenarians reaches well beyond the English-language world and is of interest everywhere. I think the English Wikipedia is the fall-back version for many non-English speakers because of its enormous size; these readers would certainly benefit from such an inclusion. Note that the list of living centenarians has no interwiki links at all. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:00, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, Michael. I will begin to make some of these additions.

- What stops the creation of an English language version of a non-English wiki article? DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 19:40, 6 December 2014 (UTC)
Nothing, apart from the fact that it's not practical for me to create an article for each one (I'm not even sure I'd know how to create a brand new article). I hope that putting these people on this article will encourage other people to create articles, in the same way that adding these people to Deaths in 2014 leads to the creation of articles.

Importance of this article
Hello. I started this article 2 days ago and found it considered for deletion the next morning. Unfortunately my computer skills (compared to advanced editors) are quite low. Therefore I had been expecting for someone else to create this article and requested its creation a few weeks ago. However since none of the editors deemed its existence essential, I decided to start the article myself.
As for the importance of this list I can say that it could save a huge amount of time for some researchers. Indeed, several longevity and centenarian fellows I know have emphasized that the best way to detect "fresh" centenarians (notable people who've just turned 100) is visiting Wikipedia's list of centenarians. However, as you might see this article is split in 18 pages which is the core of the problem. Now imagine a researcher clicking on all of those 18 links separately and checking all the centenarians on those lists who've turned 100 in 2010. Obviously, this process is time-consuming. I do believe it would be much more convenient to click on List of living centenarians, sort entries by age and simply observe new entries. That would take a few seconds and make researchers' lives much more easier.
In fact, none of the lists concerning centenarians need to be deleted. What has to be done for efficiency is the reorganization of these lists so that an editor doesn't have to write an entry twice. That is, by adding a living person to one of those 18 lists the same entry is automatically added to the list of living centenarians and the way around. This is where my low computer skills show up as I have no idea how to do that. I'll be extremely thankful for any support in organizing the list of centenarians as a whole since currently the article is inefficient and very time-consuming for most researchers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Septuaginta (talk • contribs) 19:58, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Gerry Lavell: I'm regarded as pretty hot on general knowledge (been referred to as 'the professor' at work) and I've only heard of two of these people. I think 'famous' has had a somewhat liberal interpretation applied and question the relevance of the page. Maybe change it to actually famous people who have lived to 100 but may be dead (eg. the Queen Mother, Irving Berlin). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 106.68.232.136 (talk) 01:02, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

Survey
- Yes The list is about living people older than 100, so anyone who is know for something else besides that (whether being a race car driver or an architect or an athlete) would qualify for inclusion. d.g. L3X1 (distant write) 11:14, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
- Yes. Summoned by bot. That sounds reasonable. However, I assume that people reaching the very oldest ages, 110-plus perhaps, are listed somewhere even if not notable otherwise. Coretheapple (talk) 16:12, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

Threaded discussion
- Masters athletes have been on the list of living centenarians for years now and no one had a problem with it and now multiple people have a stick up there ass about it i actually agree with the IP user above on Fauja Singh well except for the fact that his age is likely false these people aren't notable specifically for there age there notable for having records etc where someone like Richard Overton is known for being the Oldest WWII veteran so that specifically correlates with him being known for old age. But whatever we're on Wikipedia where everybody makes edits based on there personal opinion so I'm not going to get into an edit war over it as all of you will just keep changing it based on your opinion not policy. 173.69.20.107 (talk) 15:12, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

Fauja Singh
Would Fauja Singh be eligiblefor this list? He was notable since age 92, when he broke the marathon record for the 90+ age group, so he is technically not notable exclusively for his longevity. Living to 90 in itself is common and unremarkable. EternalNomad (talk) 03:41, 16 December 2016 (UTC)
- No. He would not have a Wikipedia entry if he weren't old. Besides which his age is highly questionable. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 04:24, 16 December 2016 (UTC)
- I think not having Fauja Singh on this list defeats its purpose. Emma Morano would not be eligible for this list because her high age is the only reason she's famous. Singh on the other hand isn't famous solely because of his age, he's famous for delivering respectable running results at an high age. 193.83.170.73 (talk) 22:19, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
- Perfect example here Singh was know for reasons other than his longevity as reaching 105 years itself is not notable so someone arguing he wouldn't have a Wikipedia page if he weren't old makes no sense. 173.69.20.107 (talk) 15:12, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- Plus, if Fauja Singh is not included in this list because he "would not have a Wikipedia entry if he weren't old", then why exactly is Stanislaw Kowalski on this list? He's famous for the exact same reason Singh is, delivering respectable running results at a high age, while not being famous for anything before that. Yet he's on this list, while Singh isn't. Why? --91.114.226.120 (talk) 15:12, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
Should he be on this list? He keeps getting added on and removed. 2602:306:3653:8440:D5E5:E2DC:E6A:6764 (talk) 13:43, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
- Isn't the criteria for this list being 100+ and known for reasons other than longevity? This isn't the GRG so we don't need supporting documentation that he's 110, just a source that he's reached 100 and notable. Pinging TFBCT1 (talk · contribs) and Dorglorg (talk · contribs) to discuss. CommanderLinx (talk) 12:25, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
- No, he should not be included on this list. There are (2) pertinent reasons. There is no verifiable evidence of his birth date. There is precedent for removal for this reason. Fauja Singh was removed for the same reason along with some questions regarding notability. The more substantial reasoning is that Shivakumara Swami has been described as being "god-like" or "befitting or appropriate to a god." This is a clear indication that he falls into a category of cultural lore and longevity myth. There are safeguards for adding such individuals to this list. I am removing him once again on this basis.TFBCT1 (talk) 15:57, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
- Maybe they think he's a god, but he gets periodically hospitalized with infectionsof urinary tract and liver, which suggest he's human after all. Plus his 100th birthday was widely celebrated in 2007 and there is no reason to think he would lie about his age back then. He is only a 110 year old man with several health issues, probably near death. Still can't understand why he should not be included. --Folengo (talk) 11:47, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- Celebrating one's birthday does not imply lying. He may very well truly believe that he was born in 1907. Maybe his parents once told him so. Everybody is entitled to assume a date of birth in the absence of documentation and live life accordingly. What matters for our purposes is that this is an encyclopedia, and we need proof. Gap9551 (talk) 14:54, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- Where are the proofs Babiker Awadalla or Do Muoi are 100? Maybe their parents told them they were born in 1917, but they were actually born in 1935. Really I've never seen a birth certificate for any people on the list. We base ourselves on articles regarding their birthdays so there's no reason to think Swamij was born after 1907. His birthdays were regularly celebrated throughout his life, he has many health issues and is a public figure in India. Complete blindness to exclude him. --Folengo (talk) 17:28, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- I see your point. Gerontology scientists could not include him in verified supercentenarians for now. But he is a notable person and he is over 100. This lists doesn't focus primarily on longevity, but on fame. I think he should be in. Or maybe we should make an addenda with dubious case. --Folengo (talk) 17:32, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

Virginia McLaurin
Does she meet the criteria for being on this list? Dorglorg (talk) 01:25, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- I propose a general rule for inclusion here: anyone who has a Wikipedia article (implying they are notable), and whose date of birth has been reliably sourced (or at least sourced as being 100+), except those listed on List of oldest living people. So every reliably sourced centenarian is listed either here or listed in List of oldest living people. That would include Virginia McLaurin here. The reason is that very few people who are only known for their age have their own article, and those are usually 114+ years old and easily listed in List of oldest living people. If a centenarian under age ~110 (like Virginia McLaurin) is really deemed notable only for their age I doubt their article could survive AfD. One exception would be if a truly well-known person makes it to List of oldest living people. In that case the person should be listed on both lists, in all other cases no discussion is needed with this rule. Gap9551 (talk) 14:48, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
- I agree with Gap anyone who has a Wikipedia article and whose date of birth has been reliably sourced as being over 100 should be included and that seemed to be the conclusion in the RFC about the inclusion of Masters Athletes that can be seen above. And everyone who says that McLaurin is only notable for her age apparently hasn't looked at her article or her the ESPN source for her 108th birthday that clearly states she is known for her volunteer and advocacy work http://www.espn.com/espnw/culture/the-buzz/article/18913041/virginia-mclaurin-celebrated-108th-birthday-harlem-globetrotters. At the top of the List of living Centenarians page it says The following is a list of living centenarians (living people who have attained the age of at least 100 years) known for reasons other than their longevity her article does not make it clear that she is known exclusively for longevity and that wouldn't really make sense either as 108 years old isn't some type of record breaking age it's not like she's a longevity record holder either like Richard Arvin Overton who is known for being the oldest WWII veteran and nothing else. 100.40.125.198 (talk) 01:52, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Richard Arvin Overton has had his wikipedia page since prior to his 109th birthday. So the above argument fails miserably. Virginia McLaurin only has a wikipedia page due to her ability to perform volunteer work and her energy at an advanced age, nothing else. She is NOT notable.TFBCT1 (talk) 00:06, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- My point was that Overton was known just for being the Oldest WWII Vet and nothing else whether he be 109 at the time or 111 now it doesn't matter his notability is tied specifically to his longevity being a WWII veteran itself isn't notable but his status as the current Oldest WWII veteran makes him notable as a longevity record holder where in my opinion McLaurin's community service award from Mayor Vincent C. Gray and her President's Volunteer Service Award make her notable as a volunteer and it doesn't say in her article that she got the awards specifically because of her age she would be notable whether she was 78 or 108 she happens to be 108 so she should be on the page but as Gap9551 already asked if you don't think McLaurin is notable at all why not just start an AFD ? 100.40.125.198 (talk) 00:42, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- Virginia McLaurin is an aged volunteer, clearly not an activist. This does not make her notable. If Richard Arvin Overton is not notable, neither is she. Both met with Barack Obama. So what? I'm not even sure why she has her own page. TFBCT1 (talk) 11:09, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Well she does have a page and sources say she is known for her activism and volunteer work I'm sorry you don't understand that but I don't like it is not an excuse to keep removing her from the page. 100.40.125.198 (talk) 17:54, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Please read what activism is and describe what her activism has been.TFBCT1 (talk) 00:08, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- I just think it is confusing to (potentially) discuss a person's notability in two places: the bio article and here. If you think a person is not notable, why not simply start an AfD? Gap9551 (talk) 21:57, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

Virginia McLaurin birthdate change
Can we change Virginia McLaurin's birthdate to 1917 as it is supported by this census record: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KW98-S53 (it says estimated 1916 and since her birth-month was March that would make it 1917). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dorglorg (talk • contribs)

"...known for reasons other than their longevity"
I removed this from the lede because the consensus above is to include Masters athletes and by default such entries are notable only because of their age; i.e. they were not notable before they started breaking masters records or winning titles at an advanced age. The removal was reverted on with the comment that they "aren't known exclusively for longevity that was also discussed in the RfC on the talk page". This not what the removed sentence means. The criteria, as applied to all the sub-pages underLists of centenarians, apart from this one, is that the person was notable before they became extremely old, not because they did something when they were old and then became notable (or at least passed WP:GNG, which is not the same thing). Of the 4 athletes currently on the list 2 articles were started after the person turned 100 and the other 2 when they were in their 90s (and both of those were pretty marginal for GNG). In other words, they have Wiki articles because they did something "when they were old", so it is due to their longevity that have a Wiki article and that they are included on this list. Everyone else on this list was notable long before they were old. It is misleading to say that Masters athletes are notable for anything other than they longevity when compared to everyone else on this list. - They are known for breaking masters records or winning titles why should it matter what age they were when they started doing it ? If they were known exclusively for being old they wouldn't have Wikipedia pages because just being 100+ isn't notable obviously were not adding every single person that turns 100. 100.40.125.198 (talk) 06:24, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- It matters because the intent, and still current criteria, for the list(s) of centenarians is that their notability was achieved before they were old, not because they were old. By accepting an exception to this for this article you are changing the criteria. Either the inclusion is for centenarians who were notable before they were old or it is for anyone who is a centenarian (which makes it redundant as a Category would cover the same thing). Masters athletes are not included in List of centenarians (sportspeople) and are currently the only people on this list not included in the parent centenarian list. Such inconsistency is not very encyclopedic. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 05:15, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

Article criteria
What is the source age criteria for this article? For other longevity articles a source proving life can be up to one year old and then an entry is removed. While researching the entry of Harry E. Goldsworthy, I discovered his source is over five years old and when I tried to access it, the link did not work. I was also unable to locate the alleged article on the corresponding website. I found a source for his 102 birthday, but it's over three years old now. Not sure what to do in this case, since a huge number of entries have sources multiple years old, but to me it doesn't seem like we have recent proof of life on this man. Newshunter12 (talk) 17:25, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
Hi i do agree Harry E. Goldsworthy and Alfredo Varelli come to mind as having no update for quite sometime Harry may very well still be alive as reported when he was 102 but Alfredo has not had any update from what i can see from when he turned 100. I know checking ancestry can be helpful and see if Harry is there if not theres a chance he's still alive. --ThatBaileyLad (talk) 18:57, 2 August 2019 (UTC)
Arthur L. Thurlow
Should Arthur L. Thurlow be removed? His source is five years old, and I was unable to find a more recent source on him. It is also a mere snippet in a "grapevine" section of a university alumni magazine. Such entries are typically information randomly given to the magazine about/by alumni and rely on the honor system that it is accurate. There isn't typically any actual fact checking involved like with real journalism. Does anyone else agree that he should be removed? Newshunter12 (talk) 08:56, 18 July 2019 (UTC)
According to this Arthur is still alive along with his elder sister Margaret Morash/Thurlow making them one of the oldest siblings in Canada. https://ilafatme.tribalpages.com/ --ThatBaileyLad (talk) 23:45, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
- @ThatBaileyLad That source is self-published, so it is invalid for our use. If no one can produce a recent independent reliable source within a week of when I posted the first comment, then I will remove him from the list. Newshunter12 (talk) 05:18, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

More men than women
It appears that it's getting more common these days for men to live longer than women; compare the number of women in this list with the number of men and see if this makes sense. Georgia guy (talk) 00:47, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
- No. Category:1919 births contains 6548 person, of whom 781 (= 11.9 %) are women. Of these people born 100 years ago, 31 men and 30 women are still living, so 0.5 % of men, but 4.0 % of women are still living.
- Women born in 1919 or earlier only in rare cases became scientists, politicians etc. For the German Wikipedia you can see statistics concerning the percentage of women depending on the decade of their birth in the second table of de:Wikipedia:Statistik der Biografien#Geschlecht (Statistics concerning biographical articles in German Wikipedia), it is 12.2 % for those born in the 1910s, but 23.4 % for those born in the 1960s.
- In the table de:Liste der ältesten verstorbenen prominenten Menschen (List of the oldest deceased prominent persons) at the moment there are 239 persons listed, of whom 77 were women (32.2 %). -- Aspiriniks (talk) 08:56, 29 December 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, the problem is there were much less notable women some time ago. Out of the topic, Arthur Turlow is very much alive and I will reinstate him as soon as possible.--Folengo (talk) 14:31, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
According to Swedish Wikipedia, Rune Hannäs died shortly before his 104th birthday. There is no source given there, but probably this source was used. Can please somebody check, and delete his entry here if this proves correct? Many thanks, best regards, Aspiriniks (talk) 15:29, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

- Ok added. Hopefully I got the date correct, it was a bit confusing trying to translate it because I kept getting a date of birth as February 3, 2012 which obviously wasn't correct. Using a Persian date to English date converter gave me January 31, 1921 as his date of birth, which was also a bit confusing since the article was from the 29th, but it seems that the 11 Bahman this year was January 30th, so his birthday was likely considered to be that day in Iran. Not sure why the article and tweet were a day early though, maybe time zone related? Emk9 (talk) 21:11, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

"Sister Andree"
I know The Guardian usually isn't a very reliable source, but they're talking about a living French nun who they claim is 117. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/feb/09/europe-oldest-person-sister-andre-survives-covid-celebrate-117th-birthday? 64.30.97.172 (talk) 07:23, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
- There's no Wikipedia article for Lucile Randon, so she's listed at List of the oldest living people and List of French supercentenarians. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 09:25, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
- Also this list is for people "known for reasons other than just their longevity" and I'm not aware of independent notability for Lucile Randon other than her age. Emk9 (talk) 20:54, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Merging Same birthdates
May I suggest that we merge people with same dates of birth and age — Preceding unsigned comment added by LeoXIPP (talk • contribs) 00:44, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
- I would say probably not. There's not really any confusion that arises from keeping the cells separate, and I feel like this change would make it more difficult to update whenever somebody with the same DOB gets added or removed, which is something that happens often on a volatile list such as this one. My grandmother Nadine Dorothy Smith will be 101 on May 18, 2022. She was born “Dorothy Nadine Hansen” in Fresno County, CA on May 18 1921. How do I add her to this list? 2600:100B:B103:E350:D0F:8:5EBB:D98B (talk) 00:53, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
- This page is only for people who are notable for something other than longevity. So she would need a wikipedia article first to be included. Emk9 (talk) 01:03, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
Centenarian pastor from Rwanda
Could someone add this Rwandan Pastor Mzee Ezra Mpyisi on list? He was born on 19 February 1922. [3] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:14BB:69D:9D5E:7D50:BE60:F379:20A4 (talk) 12:17, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

- Here are two for the exact birth date:
- "Edna CHILD - Great Britain". International Olympic Committee. 2016-06-16. Archived from the original on 2016-10-07. Retrieved 2022-10-16.
- "Edna Child". Olympedia. Retrieved 2022-10-16. Note this is not user generated content; see "About". Olympedia. Retrieved 2022-10-16.
- Here are two that verify the birth year of 1922.

- This list requires a source for them turning 100, not just being born 100 years ago. Emk9 (talk) 01:35, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

- That site is user edited. The primary contributor cited the Edna Child Wiki page for their edits. And automatic age calculators (as opposed to "this person turned 100" can be unreliable. (Not that I doubt Edna Child has not reached 100, but it does need an explicit source for this page.) Nohomersryan (talk) 15:10, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

John Hemingway
Is it OK if I changed John Hemingway's job title from "officer" to "pilot", as in "RAF pilot" or is that OK as is? TMProofreader (talk) 12:57, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
Proposals
Hello. I have 2 important proposals to improve this page.
1. Remove all war veterans from this list. They are mostly known for the old ages they reached. Would they be "notable" if they died at say, 85?
2. Add a column for "last confirmed alive". We should remove anyone not confirmed alive within the past 2 years. Earlier during Wikipedia's life, we had, Telmo Vargas, who was thought to be alive for a longer time than he did, and I do not want something similar to happen again. SPEEDYBEAVER (talk) 20:31, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not a fan of the second idea. I know it's used on a few other lists, like List of oldest living state leaders, but this list is much longer (it has ~300 people on it right now) and such a column would likely go stale quickly due to all the minor people that would need to be kept track of. It's also not unlikely that a centenarian living quietly could go 2 years without press in a reliable source. (As for Vargas, his article was edited many times after he died, and nobody seemingly noticed it until 2016. That stuff just happens.)
- As for the first proposal, which war veterans on the list are you thinking of? Nohomersryan (talk) 23:52, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
Jacqueline White
Why is this long retired actress not in the list? She is for all we know alive and have turned 100 on 23 November 2022. 109.245.127.47 (talk) 22:34, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- To be on this list there needs to be a source for them being 100 or older. Emk9 (talk) 23:43, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
