Australian fire stations
[edit]I've consulted with editors at wp:AWNB and have jotted notes on accessing historic register databases at wp:HSITESHELP. It seems to me that this list-article should include any Australian fire stations that have Wikipedia articles, plus include redlinks for any that are deemed "state-level" significance by any state or territory. So I'm removing some redlinks of lesser historic status to here.
New South Wales
[edit]Removed from draft article, one item from the Register of the National Estate, found in search of Australia Heritage Register, with selection for this type:
- Auburn Fire Station (Auburn, New South Wales), "indicative" on the Register of the National Estate[1]
- there may be others, and, as earlier/longer identified these may be relatively more important than other historic sites in NSW. I created an article for a "registered" one.
From searchable register here, can click on "State Heritage Register" to limit results. There are no historic fire stations of state-level significance apparently. Local significance ones include:
- Albury Civic Fire Station[2]
- Ashfield Fire Station, 16 Victoria Street, Ashfield, Ashfield
- Balgownie Fire Station, 117 Balgownie Road, Balgownie, Wollongong City
- Ballina Fire Station, 60 Crane Street, Ballina, Ballina
- Balmain Fire Station, 391 Darling Street, Balmain, Leichhardt
- Balranald Fire Station, 123 Market Street, Balranald, Balranald
- Bega Fire Station, Gipps Street, Bega, Bega Valley
- Bellingen Fire Station, 22 Hyde Street, Bellingen, Bellingen
- Bexley Fire Station, 163 Queen Victoria Street, Bexley, Rockdale
- Bh166 : Fire Station, 223-225 Great Western Highway, Blackheath, Blue Mountains
- Blayney Fire Station, 23 Church Street, Blayney, Blayney
- Bondi Fire Station, 359 Old South Head Road, Bondi, Waverley
- Botany Fire Station, 1-3 Banksia Street, Botany, Botany Bay
- Bowral Fire Station, 16 Merrigang Street, Bowral, Wingecarribee
- Bowraville Fire Station, 55 High Street, Bowraville, Nambucca
- etc.

Northern Territory
[edit]No fire stations found using NT historic register search interface. In fact no hits at all on "fire", although there are police stations and other items found by searching on "station". --Doncram (talk) 18:43, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
South Australia
[edit]Candidates found by searching here. Keeping in the list-article these ones which have state-level significance:

- Mount Gambier Fire Station[3]
- Fire Station Inn (former North Adelaide Fire Station, former Shop & Dwelling), try Fire Station Inn, North Adelaide Fire Station[4]
- Historic at local level (selected ones, not all), keeping in list-article

- Glynde Fire Station[6]

Tasmania
[edit]No coverage of Tasmania fire stations being kept in now. Tasmania ones found in searching its registrations document are:
but there is no indication of state-level signficance, and in Google searching on Hobart and Rokeby ones I didn't immediately find useful sources.

Western Australia
[edit]For WA, being kept are four already having articles:
and all 16 Western Australia state-level significant ones (which includes 3 of those, all but Old Perth one) found in search on "fire" with state-level significance checked:
- Albany Fire Station, Albany Fire Station & Fire Officer's House, 71 Collie St, Albany
- Bassendean Fire Station / Bassendean Fire Station (fmr), 10 - 14 Parker St, Bassendean
- Beverley Fire Station, 146 Vincent St, Beverley
- Claremont Fire Station, 441 Stirling Hwy, Claremont
- Coolgardie Fire Station, Sylvester St, Coolgardie
- Fremantle Fire Station (fmr No 2), 18 Phillimore St, Fremantle
- Fremantle Fire Station, 20 Phillimore St, Fremantle
- Guildford Fire Station & Quarters, 2 Meadow St, Guildford
- North Kalgoorlie Fire Station (Lamington Fire Station), 1 Hare St, Kalgoorlie
- Kellerberrin Fire Station, 4 Ripper St, Kellerberrin
- Merredin Fire Station / Merredin Fire Station Complex, 28 Bates St, Merredin
- North Perth Fire Station / North Perth Fire Station (fmr), 21 View St, North Perth
- Northam Fire Station No 2 & Quarters (fmr) (Northam's Avon Descent Assoc. Headquarters), 87 Duke St, Northam
- No. 1 Fire Station, Central Fire Station (Perth), Perth City Fire Station, Western Australian Fire Brigade Museum / No 1 Fire Station (fmr) (Central Fire Station; Perth City Fire Station, Western Australian Fire Brigade Museum), 25 Murray St, Perth
- Toodyay Fire Station, 105 Stirling Tce, Toodyay
- York Fire Station, Old York Fire Station, Old York Fire Station (Community Centre, Council Chambers (fmr)), 151 Avon Tce, York
It appears the Old Perth Fire Station is different than the North Perth Fire Station based on addresses and photos. Since the Old Perth one's article asserts it was the first purpose-built fire station in WA, I wonder why it does not appear to be listed on the WA register.

- Actually I myself am no longer interested/able to develop articles in a timely fashion about several of these, so I am withdrawing the redlink items from the mainspace page, in this edit just now. What the mainspace page showed before that edit was:
- Albany Fire Station, Albany Fire Station & Fire Officer's House, 71 Collie St., Albany
- Bassendean Fire Station / Bassendean Fire Station (fmr), 10-14 Parker St., Bassendean
- Beverley Fire Station, 146 Vincent St., Beverley
- Claremont Fire Station, 441 Stirling Hwy., Claremont
- Coolgardie Fire Station, Sylvester St., Coolgardie
- Fremantle Fire Station (fmr No 2), 18 Phillimore St., Fremantle
- Fremantle Fire Station, 20 Phillimore St., Fremantle
- Guildford Fire Station & Quarters, 2 Meadow St., Guildford
- North Kalgoorlie Fire Station (Lamington Fire Station), 1 Hare St., Kalgoorlie
- Kellerberrin Fire Station, 4 Ripper St., Kellerberrin
- Merredin Fire Station / Merredin Fire Station Complex, 28 Bates St., Merredin
- North Perth Fire Station / North Perth Fire Station (fmr), 21 View St., North Perth
- Northam Fire Station No 2 & Quarters (fmr) (Northam's Avon Descent Assoc. Headquarters), 87 Duke St., Northam
- Old Perth Fire Station, Perth, the first purpose-built fire station in Western Australia, home of Fire & Emergency Services Education and Heritage Centre
- No. 1 Fire Station, 25 Murray St., Perth, home of the Western Australian Fire Brigade Museum
- Toodyay Fire Station, 105 Stirling Tce., Toodyay
- York Fire Station, Old York Fire Station, Old York Fire Station (Community Centre, Council Chambers (fmr)), 151 Avon Tce, York
- Those include some which I suspected were relatively more important because there were multiple historic register listings under different name variants. I would be fine if anyone else wanted to develop articles about any of these and restore their items to this list-article. --Doncram (talk) 17:04, 10 November 2018 (UTC)

Fork U.S. list?
[edit]The U.S. list is quite long. How do editors feel about forking to List of fire stations in the United States? ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:35, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- The page is currently 46,429 bytes long and I think it is not going to get much longer anytime soon, as I complete out redlinks and tidy up a bit. If/when editors want to devote effort into table-izing the sections and putting in photos and coordinates and so on, it could become too long and need to be split. But for now it is well within the old guideline of 100K size, and it seems interesting to juxtapose all the different countries' items in one page. So I'd prefer not to split it now. --Doncram (talk) 02:24, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Page intent
[edit]I'm confused by the intent of this page. It's currently titled "List of fire stations" but the very first sentence of the article is "This is a list of notable current and former fire stations..." It seems that either "notable" should be dropped or the article title should be updated to "List of notable fire stations." I navigated here with the expectation of a larger list and now unsure if I should add non-notable fire stations to the list. Cheers. --Krypter7 (talk) 21:42, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- I meant for the list to include just notable ones. In naming of this and many (most? nearly all?) list-articles, the word "notable" is implied but not stated. And, yes, the lede of the article does clarify that this is meant to include just the Wikipedia-notable ones. --Doncram (talk, contribs) 21:43, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
disambiguation of Engine House No. 5 etc. and Fire Station No. 5 etc.
[edit]Just recording notes. Yesterday I noticed User:Ɱ had created a number of nice articles for fire stations in Columbus, Ohio, mostly named "Engine House No. X (Columbus, Ohio)" now. Which got me stirred up to create redirects from "Engine House No. X" where possible to "Fire Station No. X" disambiguation pages, and to make the latter more clearly appear as combination dabs covering variations. I once apparently thought it good to develop "Engine House No. X" disambiguation pages and keep them separate from corresponding "Fire Station No. X" disambiguation pages, but have now merged all of those.
Note that "List of fire stations" includes in its "see also" section a series of disambiguation pages: Fire Station No. 1, Fire Station No. 2, etc., which I have meant to be comprehensive in terms of including any numbered fire stations whether called hose stations, engine houses, or other. These disambiguation pages exist up to X=25 and then there are a few more with higher numbers (and I think all are listed at end of List of fire stations). There also exist a few higher numbered "Engine House No. X" items, not listed there, which currently are {{R with possibilities}} to "Engine House No. X (City, State)" articles, for which there is not yet a "Fire Station No. X" disambiguation page to redirect to.
I also revised Engine House (disambiguation) somewhat; I am not sure if it should include "Engine House No. X" or other "engine house" items that are fire stations or not. Maybe it should just cover engine houses; there is List of engine houses also as a section of "engine house" article. Per my own writing at Engine House (disambiguation), that "An engine house is a building that holds engines, often stationary engines providing power, and sometimes is a fire station holding fire engines." However almost all entries there (with Cleveland Mine Engine House Number 3 being one exception) are fire stations / firehouses. I believe all the entries there (and on any "Engine House No. X" dab page) that are named "Engine House No. X" are in fact fire stations / firehouses.
Comments, perhaps especially about Engine House (disambiguation), would be welcomed. Almost all of its entries now are "partial matches" which aren't usually included in a disambiguation page, except sometimes as "See also" items. --Doncram (talk, contribs) 18:01, 15 June 2023 (UTC)
