Non-diplomatic missions

[edit]

The above was added to the article (data is from the source already present) to follow up on what's already announced in the lead ("Niue also has a few honorary consulates and non-diplomatic representatives.")

It's a common practice for those articles to include missions that aren't "diplomatic" in the strict sense of this word - when the state in questions has/hosts only a few "real" diplomatic missions/embassies. See for example the "Representative and Trade Offices" here.

I propose restoring the tourist offices section. Japinderum (talk) 14:41, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AFAIK, there is no common practice to include missions that are not diplomatic. In fact, there is a very relevant and interesting debate going on at the moment about the inclusion of non-diplomatic offices of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic to the diplomatic lists [[1]]. There is strong consensus that these missions should not be added to these lists. For more info on this discussion, see this page's talk page.
With respect to the ROC missions, these missions (and their staff) arguably enjoy more privileges than any tourist office and their staff. Also, the ROC representatives are generally diplomatically appointed by the Taipei government. I would expect that this is not the case with the Niue tourist representatives. If addition of tourist offices to these lists was generally accepted, then these lists would lose their original purpose: to show information about diplomatic missions in/of a specific country.
I therefore suggest that tourist offices should not be included in the Niue lists; only the diplomatic missions. Alternatively, I suggest that a separate list of non-diplomatic offices are added or that the tourist offices are added to [[2]].

Forgot to mention that honorary consulates are not usually included in these lists either since they also are not diplomatic missions. But the consensus is not as strong on this point as some editors tend to insist on their inclusion. I suggest that the honorary consulate in Auckland is also removed.
