Do List Items Need More than a Link to a Website to be Included?
[edit]Seems like 100% ad, 0% encyclopedic content when there is no article, only an external link to a co.'s website. Leoniana (talk) 07:38, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Non-sourced chains
[edit]I'm going to start pulling entries for non-sourced chains here; there are plenty who only have a red-linked name with no other attribution. --Mhking (talk) 23:28, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Removing them makes it difficult to source them. 75.34.152.194 (talk) 14:28, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- The redline chains have nothing to do with sourcing. Wikipedia only allows pages for chains considered significant. A chain must be owned by a billionaire, celebrity or major corporations to be considered significant. I think we should keep the chains without Wiki pages so people will know that Wikipedia does not provide a complete list of the market. BTW, since shops have a physical presence, it is super easy to source them on Yelp or an online map. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yintercept (talk • contribs) 20:06, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
Multiple countries listed
[edit]The guidelines that were set up for this article originally (you can see them by editing the article):
When adding new links to this page, please observe the following guidelines:
- List international chains in the country that they were founded in, only.
- Please do not list international chains in every country in which they do business.
- ...
These have been fairly widely ignored, and we keep seeing unverifiable edits from people adding more countries to the already extensive lists. I'm planning on going through and removing all the extraneous countries listed, leaving only the country each chain was founded in. Any objections before I do this? Tarl N. Order
[edit]Can these please be sorted by number of locations; greatest to smallest? CyberSecurityGuy (talk) 18:01, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
- The list is sortable, so you can do that yourself by clicking on the triangles next to the heading you want to sort by. See Help:Table#Sortable_tables. dragfyre_ʞןɐʇc 09:26, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
Shipley Donuts
[edit]My understanding is that Shipley donuts is a donut shop, which also sells coffee. As a result, it is not included in the list here. Please discuss this here, per WP:BRD rather than re-reverting again. Tarl N. (discuss) 03:04, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- Plenty of coffeehouse chains sell donuts or bagels: Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, Tim Hortons, etc. MrOllie (talk) 03:28, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- Right, the question is does a donut shop merit inclusion in this list of coffeehouse chains. Per the intro, it doesn’t. Tarl N. (discuss) 06:09, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- Shipley is about 50/50 coffee and donuts. While it is certainly proportionally higher donut focused than Dunkin, the reason I chose to add was from seeing Krispy Kreme and some others that are also right around half and half. ParaguaneroSwag (talk) 04:31, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

Current vs historical info
[edit]Is the scope here current chains, or chains that have since closed down? Is the "Number of locations" column current, maximum (if some have closed) or just prior to chain closure? My example is that Blue State Coffee had up to 9, but then stabilized at around 7 prior to COVID, then was at 6 just prior to closing down altogether in 2022. DMacks (talk) 03:35, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
- I'd say the list is intended to reflect current chains. So, removing extinct chains would be reasonable. Alternatively, flag the chain as historical. Tarl N. (discuss) 18:59, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
