To be included on this stand-alone list, each entry should meet the following list criteria (see discussion):

For characters from the games, the character must have made a substantial (e.g. non cameo) appearance in at least two Sonic games. Because Sonic has such a large cast of characters, this list is primarily dedicated to major ones. One-off or minor characters are considered out of this list's scope and should be covered within their respective game's article rather than here.
An example of a character who meets this criteria is Ray the Flying Squirrel, who makes substantial appearances in SegaSonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Mania Plus. This is the minimum required for a character to be considered noteworthy for this list.

An example of a character who does not meet this criteria is Princess Elise, whose only substantial appearance is in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Unless she makes another non-cameo appearance in the future, she fails the inclusion criteria.
For characters from other media (TV shows, movies, and comics), the character must have made a substantial appearance in at least two different forms of media. Because Sonic is primarily a video game franchise and there are too many Sonic characters exclusive to non-video game media to be listed here, a separate criteria exists to determine if a non-game character can be listed.
An example of a character who meets this criteria is Princess Sally, who made substantial appearances in the Saturday morning Sonic cartoon and the Archie Comics Sonic the Hedgehog series. Therefore, she can be listed, even though she has never made a substantial appearance in a Sonic game.

An example of a character who does not meet this criteria is Geoffrey St. John, who, while a fairly significant character within the Archie Comics Sonic series, never appeared outside it. Thus, unless he makes an appearance in another form of media in the future, he fails the inclusion criteria.
All entries on this list should be backed with secondary, reliable sources. No entries should be sourced entirely to primary sources, and any such entries will be removed.

Any discussions regarding splitting character entries from this list must happen on this talk page before any action is taken, to determine if the character has received enough coverage in reliable sources to be notable enough to stand as their own article.

Anyone who attempts a Sonic game has a duty to create new characters, so we shall have a go at one or two.

Wanted to save this. I mentioned that at some point I'd love to try and add a section about the criticism of the number of characters specifically, and this is a great quote from the other side of things. Pachacamac

Pachacamac is right on the line, teetering precariously between admissible and inadmissible. He's a decently important part of the Sonic Adventure backstory, but he didn't appear in any other games (outside of brief passing mentions in Chronicles and Unleashed). He shows up in comics and Sonic X, but only in the Sonic Adventure adaptations. There's a few good secondary sources, but they're all focused on his appearance in two episodes of the Knuckles show. Given all the criteria, I think he's not quite there yet, especially given the likes of Gerald and Maria only barely made it in, and they have even more to work with than he does; it would probably take a physical appearance in another game to push him over the line. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 18:25, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not Orbot in Sonic Unleashed

According to the sources in Sonic News Network, the robot who assisted Eggman in Sonic Unleashed is not Orbot. He is another character named SA-55. He may have similar shape, but he is still not Orbot. Iago PUC (talk) 00:49, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The "Orbot" in Unleashed is officially SA-55. It's confirmed in the official Sonic Encyclospeedia too that he's Orbot's predecessor. Tribal-Mand0 (talk) 17:14, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should Commander Abraham Tower & Black Doom be on here?

As they both have been in at least two games (the Commander being in Shadow 2005 and Chronicles, and Black Doom being in both Shadow & Shadow Gens) and have both been in other media (both are in Dark Beginnings animations and included in the Archie comics), with the Commander even having his full name confirmed in Dark Beginnings too. I'd say Black Doom and Mephiles satisfy the inclusion criteria now that Shadow Generations is out. Tower I think can just be covered under the GUN subsection. JOE BRO ⁶⁴ 19:20, 27 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
