US Open 2003

[edit]

Mentioned here at https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/nearly-500-xbox-and-dreamcast-prototypes-and-unreleased-games-have-been-uncovered/ I need to figure out what this refers to actually before I can write an entry. Could be a few different sports... Sergecross73 msg me 18:51, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

He-Man entry

[edit]

This addition to the He-Man entry was added by DJ Kaito. Do we know if the game is actually playable on an Xbox 360, or if this was just a typo? Neither the addition nor the source made this clear. If its real, its worth mentioning. If its just a typo that was eventually removed or something, then its probably not worth mentioning. Anyone know? Sergecross73 msg me 14:59, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If it's a mistake, it's a mistake that they still haven't corrected 20 years later. Regardless, it was there in Microsoft's original list announcement. I have to assume it was still planned for release at the time the list went out, and they just never updated the list to remove it after the game got canned. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 18:08, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Doing further research, the leaked prototype is technically not backwards compatible, but it's also dated 2003, two years before the list came out, so I don't think it can be used as any sort of indicator (plus it would be OR anyway). Given the fact the game was never taken off the list, and thus was mentioned on various press outlets reporting on it (one of which I swapped in to replace the previous source), I think it still merits inclusion. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 18:31, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, if the list dates back that far, then I wonder if, as you mention, it was meant to be backwards compatible had it released, and they just never went back and remove it? Seems plausible - I've never played it, but it looks like a cheap licensed game, released at the end of a hardware cycle, from an IP well past its prime. Not exactly on a lot of people's radar.
Anyways, that aside, I'm a bit torn on including it. I guess I don't really understand the point of mentioning it in the context of this list. If the prototype isn't compatible, and the official version of the game isn't available, it doesn't really appear to mean anything. The only thing I can think of is, we commonly add notes like "(game) was far enough along to have review copies sent to (publication) but it was still never released" - I suppose we could rework it into that sort of statement? Otherwise it just kind of feels like a non sequitur of trivia. Sergecross73 msg me 19:07, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I mean the current statement reads "Only the PlayStation 2 version released in 2005, despite the game appearing on the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility list." All it needs is a light tweak to "Despite the Xbox version being far enough in development to appear on the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility list in 2005, only the PlayStation 2 version was released." -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 19:43, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I honestly hadn't seen that you had already altered it some - I only briefly noticed DJ Kaito's version yesterday (linked above), but didn't have the time to act on it, so I just made a mental note to bring it up today. Soooo part of that's on me for not noticing subsequent revisions. Sorry about that. That said, the revision you just made now, in my opinion, makes it even better, so I suppose it wasn't all for nothing either. Thanks! Sergecross73 msg me 20:06, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Listing each of the unaccounted for games in the "cancelled Xbox games" category.

Sources are provided when available; entries without sources listed have less reliable sources available, but no reliable ones found as of yet. (Keep in mind sources are a little harder to search for this time around because different sites' current-day "Xbox" (One/Series) headers keep getting caught in the results.) -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 14:57, 4 June 2024 (UTC) Cyberlink420 (talk) 14:57, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
