Merge

[edit]

I'd like this to be a page on its own, since I'm planning to expand this page and create articles for red links in order for this to be WP:FL standard. --Howard the Duck 05:41, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think my request to merge the article is inconsistent with your desire to expand the article (which I applaud, by the way!) In fact, I think you might have a great opportunity to make Philippines at the Summer Olympics a WP:FA instead! Right now, the set of "Nation at the Olympics" articles is a collective mess, with a single article up to feature article standard (namely, Australia at the Winter Olympics). My original reason for making the merge request here is that I thought the content of this article read more like a standard article than like a list. The "History" section is one example of that.
I think there is some good material here, but it is not easily found. Without hyperbole, I have edited thousands of Olympic articles before I discovered this one. Since Philippines at the Summer Olympics is the "base" article for the nation's Olympic history, and is linked to through several existing navigation mechanisms (from other nations, other Philippines pages, etc.), I think it is the most appropriate place for this content since it will be seen by more people. Everybody knows passing WP:FL is way easier than WP:FA (I'm a cheater hahaha), so I've segregated the medallists from the participants, and compiled them to a list form. I don't think this'll be hard to find, since Filipino Olympic medallists, the original name, redirects here. Several other redirects and linking this to other articles will help. I actually think a separate <Foo> Olympic medalists is appropriate, especially to NOCs that are woefully bad (like this), while other NOCs will tend to have <Foo> Olympic medalists in <sport>. --Howard the Duck 06:19, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I still think the goal should be to reach FA status! I would like to see this content on Philippines at the Summer Olympics, so I might make those edits myself. If you insist on retaining this list article in parallel to that, I won't fight it. Good luck! Andrwsc 07:38, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, to reach FA status is like the Philippines achieving a gold medal. The scope of the Philippines at the Summer Olympics is broad, so splitting them off while early is a good way forward. --Howard the Duck 09:47, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since the discussion is "no consensus," the default is to keep. I'll be removing the merge tag after Xmas if no one objects. --Howard the Duck 17:32, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect you and I are the only people reading this talk page! I would still like to update the main summer page, but there is a discussion started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Sports Olympics about the right article structure (i.e. should the main page be Philippines at the Olympics instead, and cover both summer and winter Games). Until that is sorted out, please go ahead and improve this article and I wish you success to reach featured list status. Andrwsc 23:25, 22 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think Philippines at the Olympics would be redundant with Philippines at the Summer Olympics since virtually all Filipino olympians participated in the summer games. --Howard the Duck 07:37, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the idea is to replace the summer-only article, not add another (redundant) one. Right now, the default structure is to create a pair of main articles for each nation, one for the summer Games and one for the winter. I don't think that's necessary except for about 10% of the nations - those that have a substantial winter history. In the Philippines case, there is no Philippines at the Winter Olympics article, and I would assert that there shouldn't be a full article on that topic. Instead, that relatively small amount of material could be handled in a section within a Philippines at the Olympics article, and that's the idea behind that proposal. Andrwsc 17:50, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Then I'll approve of a move from Philippines at the Summer Olympics to Philippines at the Olympics. As for this page, I'd recommend submitting this to AFD to see how it works out. --Howard the Duck 01:40, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:PhilSoc.png

[edit]

Image:PhilSoc.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
