NPOV and importance
[edit]"Lincoln Akerman students have shown quite a bit higher than state-average scores in Social Studies, Language Arts, and Math" This sounds like NPOV violation to me, or at least unencyclopedic. In fact the whole article is very unencyclopedic. Do we really have to know that the fifth grade go and make maple syrup? Or at least does it have to take up most of the education section? Major rework need to be done. --antilived T | C 21:53, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- To my knowledge, the page is being worked on by sixth graders, so I'd recommend giving it a bit of leeway while they work on it. It's a new page, so let's be constructive and help the kids learn how to be good Wikipedians. :) Elonka 22:03, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Are you saying I'm a bad writer? Why I ought to...! (Just kidding!)Icelandic Hurricane 22:10, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
This article is great! Thanks so much for editing it. I made two very small changes.
- small At the top of the article you said the school was "small." Small is innapropriately subjective. Small compared to what?
- The school has an excellent reputation in the state of New Hampshire According to who? One of our policies is WP:NPOV, which means that Wikipedia dosen't have any opinions about anything. If it's written in Wikipedia's words, it can't say anything good or bad about someone. We don't even say Hitler is evil! What we do is find someone important that SAID something, and then report that they said it.
- Another notable event at the school is a These were just excess words.
Hope that helps! Thanks for your work! Hipocrite - «Talk» 22:35, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- I would suggest referring to state testing results as a defense of your assertions of the execelent education. Also, it shouldn't be hard to find that information, as well as the school population from the NH Department of Education. Assawyer 01:38, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

- You would need permission for the names of the kids, not the adults. Assawyer 01:38, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Ideas?
[edit]If anybody has read my userpage, do you think that there is something in my field of interest I might know a lot about or something local? Please respond.Icelandic Hurricane 20:49, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- You probably have access to all kinds of local New Hampshire information in your local libraries, that is not easily available to anyone outside of New Hampshire. What's the biggest newspaper in your area? Find their archive, find the oldest newspaper you can, and look for a story in it that interests you. Chances are that whatever facts you find, would be a useful addition to some article here on Wikipedia. And you'll have a ready-made "verifiable reference", since you'll be getting it from a bonafide newspaper. Ditto if your local library has books on New Hampshire history. Plus, with all the famous folks in your family tree, have you checked to see if there are articles on every single one of 'em yet? :) Elonka 21:56, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- The most common newspapers we get are the ***** and the *****.Icelandic Hurricane 22:12, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Help me!
[edit]I tried putting a template on the page but it's messed up and I can't get it right. Can somebody please help me?Icelandic Hurricane 23:43, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- It was missing a "Close row" and "close table" tag. (/tr)(/table) I added them to fix the immediate problem... I'll still leave it to you to figure out how to put the picture in though. Try checking other pages with the box, to see how they do it. If you can't figure it out, I'll check back later tonight. Good luck! :) Elonka 23:51, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
I changed the template to fit more stuff and I added the image.Icelandic Hurricane 00:47, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

- There's nothing wrong with the article that I can see. It's a bit more on the "local" side than something that's internationally famous, but it's neutral, it's interesting, and it's referenced. I see no reason it should be deleted. Elonka 16:19, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- (followup) I went through and cleaned it up, removing the information which I couldn't find references for. Please tell your mom it's a good addition to Wikipedia, and only uses information which is already available from public news sources. If she has specific concerns, please let us know. :) Elonka 16:43, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Looks good to me. My mom says it's fine. She just doesn't want people who pretend their all nice to come and prey on little kids.Icelandic Hurricane 17:19, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- An understandable concern which I completely agree with. :) Elonka 17:29, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Akerman
[edit]Was Lincoln Akerman, the war hero, related to Amos T. Akerman, the New Hampshire man who became U.S. Attorney General? Elonka 17:57, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
- Probably, but I'd have to ask someone who would know. But that I can do. I'll find out by Monday.Icelandic Hurricane 15:10, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- I found out that it's quite likely, but not 100% positive.Icelandic Hurricane 22:03, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
