Who proved originally the theorem?
[edit]I am somewhat puzzled by Point Set Topologists statements. Levitzki's original publication is: On multiplicative systems, Comp. Math. 8(1950), 76-80.
Utumi's proof is in A theorem of Levitzki, Amer. Math. Monthly, 70(1963), 286.
How does the priority of Utumi is deduced? Kope (talk) 09:31, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- I corrected the mistakes and included references to some of the more cited proofs. The earliest publication of Levitzki's proof was in 1945, but his original submission was the 1950 paper you mention. Apparently a world war is enough to disrupt the refereeing process. - Thanks. Nice job. Kope (talk) 15:09, 23 August 2009 (UTC)
- I apologize. I misread the reference but I think that JackSchmidt has corrected the lead anyway (thankyou). --PST 10:39, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Name spelling
[edit]Someone has pointed out that multiple spellings for the author's name exist. Right now this article is in terms of "Levitzky" which does appear in print in lots of texts, so it's understandable how that variant made it here. It's a bit of an annoying clash, but rather than go through the trouble of renaming it to encounter the opposite problem later on, I'm inclined to leave it as it is. The references make it clear that Levitzki is another standard variation of the name, so confusion about its provenance shouldn't arise. Rschwieb (talk) 13:50, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
