I've rewritten this page more-or-less from scratch. It still needs some work, but I think it is now a reasonable article. I'm not sure at what point it stops being a stub. JosephSilverman (talk) 22:03, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
Possible proof
[edit]A supposed proof of Lehmer's conjecture by Jean-Louis Verger-Gaugry has been published on arxiv today (not yet peer reviewed), see https://arxiv.org/pdf/1709.03771.pdf. The paper "A Proof of the Conjecture of Lehmer and of the Conjecture of Schinzel-Zassenhaus" is 164 pages long (including 24 pages of references). I am unsure if the work should be mentioned in the article.Renerpho (talk) 15:42, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
There are frequently incorrect proofs of longstanding conjectures posted on the Math ArXiv. I do not want to prejudge Verger-Gaugry's long paper, but I do not think that it would not be appropriate to cite it on Wikipedia until it has been refereed and accepted for publication at a reputable journal. - It is published now. 109.252.90.119 (talk) 01:23, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- Sadly, the paper is flawed in a few places. Francesco Amoroso pointed out one of the major flaws in a short remark: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1809.10600.pdf HyperSpeeed (talk) 12:15, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
