At the end of the article, it says that Lauans provide a disproportionate percentage of Fijian Leadership, given its small population. i simply want to point out that the census figures only tell us how many reside in the province, the number of Lauans living on Viti Levu is sizable. At a recent informal counting of the residents of Vanua Balavu, the figure was in excess of 14,000, which equals if not exceeds the census figures of the entire province.

The figures for Ba, Naitasiri, and Rewa are boosted by not only Lauans but other provinces as well, while detracting form the supposed figures of their province of origin.

Ba includes the towns of Nadi and Lautoka

Rewa includes Suva and Lami

Naitasiri includes the Suva-Nausori corridor

The inclusion of these urban areas have boosted the supposed population of these provinces, while in the west, people will identify more closely with where they reside, it is not the case in Fiji: no self respecting Lauan even if residing in Suva, Nadi or Lautoka would ever call himself anything but Lauan.

JUst a thought from a concerned Lauan.

high islands sentence

[edit]

The article currently reads "While most of the northern Lau Group is high and of volcanic origin, those of the south are mostly carbonate." My proposed rewording is "While most of the northern Lau Group are high islands of volcanic origin, those of the south are mostly carbonate." Comments? Tomertalk 03:51, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think the map is correct

[edit]

The circle on this map seems to be indicating the two main islands of Fiji, not the tiny archipelago with a population of only 10K+ Deliusfan (talk) 03:21, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

the circle should actually be slightly to the east of the northeast of the two islands, Vanua Levu Deliusfan (talk) 03:24, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
