Changes

[edit]

I changed "Major programs" into "Programs" as it imho is more in line with the rest of the topics (if only major programs are listed then why shouldn't only major journals and major associations too?). Besides, the page title is Latin American Studies which in my opinion should contain all relevant information, not just those someone has personally considered worth keeping.

In addition I don't see the necessity of pushing the unsourced "one of the largest LAS programs" claim in the list. Instead of giving any useful information, it just looks like pushing of a personal agenda with biased advertising. I corrected my mistake of linking directly to Renvall Institute to point to the Ibero-American Center. I really appreciate discussion and argumentation before reverting more of my edits. piksi (talk) 12:56, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indiscriminate list of programs

[edit]

In the spirit of WP:NOTDIR, the list of programs needs to be trimmed. Any suggestions are welcome on selection criteria. ☆ Bri (talk) 20:54, 2 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Image Question

[edit]

Do you guys think any images could be added to this article? I think it would bring more pop to the article and give a better representation to the topic. Otherwise I think this article is really well done! Friday.b (talk) 00:32, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

According to Helen Delpar's Looking South: The Evolution of Latin Americanist Scholarship in the United States, 1850-1975 (2008), the 1958–1975 boom in American Latin Americanist scholarship originated from the 1958 Attack on Richard Nixon's motorcade and Cuban Revolution's triumph in 1959. She argues this forced American scholars to view Latin America through a new Cold War lens, so I suggest one of the following with the explanation I provided: [1][2][3].
