Classification
[edit]Y CVn (La Superbathis) is too faint to call a red supergiant. The luminosity of Y CVn is 4,400 times solar. Meanwhile that of Mira is 8,400 times solar. Y CVn is less luminous than Mira. Mira is a M7III type normal red giant. Therefore , Y CVn should be a normal red giant.
The classification "I" in the spectral type "C7I" of Y CVn means "Most luminous class of carbon stars". But this class is too faint to call red supergaint's class.
Reference information : List of M type giant stars.
1 Most luminous supergiant(hypergiant)
- VY Canis Majoris The luminosity is 400,000-500,000 times solar and the mass is 30-40 times solar.
2 Luminous supergiant(Ia type).
- Mu Cephei: The luminosity is 250,000-350,000 times solar and the mass is 25 times solar.
3 Faint supergiants(Ib type).
- Antares: The Luminosity is 65,000 times solar and the mass is 15 times solar .
- betelgeuse: The luminosity is 63,000 times solar and the mass is 14 times solar.
4 Bright giant(II type).
- Alpha Herculis: The luminosity is 20,000 times solar and the mass is 7-10 times solar.
5 Normal giant(III type).
- Mira: The luminosity is 8,400 times solar luminosity and the initial mass is about 2 times solar.
