Update on population

[edit]

The population given in the infobox, and in the demographics section is creating confusion. The muncipalities and villages in the UA also needs to be expanded. Which are the muncipalities in the UA ? The demographics sections says that there are 11 villages. Which are those villages ?

Can any one update these things ?

Thanks in advance,--Samaleks 06:54, 1 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure about the names of the municipalities. According to User:Tintin1107/Kochi, Trikkakara, Eloor, Kalamassery, and Trippunithura are the loclities within the agglomeration. Maybe the source from which you added that info in the demograghics section can tell us more?--thunderboltz(Deepu) 07:09, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The population details of the muncipalities in Ernakulam district can be found in this website. Perumbavoor and Paravur are not in the UA, i think. Some near by villages are also included in the UA. If you know the villages that is in the UA, trace out the population from this url. -- Rajith Mohan (Talk to me...) :-) 01:29, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Page title

[edit]

I propose that we change the article title to Kochi metropolitan area from the present Kochi UA, akin to Mumbai metropolitan area. I'd appreciate comments from fellow wikipedians. TIA.--thunderboltz(Deepu) 13:50, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that changing the title to Kochi Urban Agglomeration will be more accurate. -- Rajith Mohan (Talk to me...) :-) 11:42, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That would be fine. So is there concensus for Kochi urban agglomeration? A link to this page will appear on the main page along with the Kochi article in WP:TFA on Nov 1st. Hence the hurry.--thunderboltz(Deepu) 14:06, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think we can go ahead with the name change to Kochi urban agglomeration, since none of the editors posted any opposition. Tomorrow is November 1. So, better to change it now. -- Rajith Mohan (Talk to me...) :-) 05:25, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Just noticed that urban agglomeration now redirects to metropolitan area. Maybe that is a better word? "Urban agglomeration" seems too geeky in the sense that it is not used commonly, and means just the same...--thunderboltz(Deepu) 13:01, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Urban Agglomeration is the apt word in related to the Kochi UA, which include some adjoining villages also along with the muncipalities. --Samaleks 00:29, 1 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved this page to the standard title, following the naming convention used by all other major cities (see Mumbai metropolitan area and Kolkata metropolitan area). Thanks. Saravask 04:50, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is a very unilateral decission to move the page. You could have better discussed it here. We should always see, what the fellow editors have to say. I request you to move back the page to its last name, and arrive at a consensus here. Thanks.-- Rajith Mohan (Talk to me..) 01:15, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Consider the word definition also, those cities have high population of more than 4 million. Please change back the Metropolitan Area to UA. -Rahulpattuvam talk 06:55, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Data were wrong

[edit]

The introductory text on Kochi urban agglomeration was almost totally wrong. I have added the correct data from Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission JNNURM, Govt. of India. For example Perumbavoor is not part of Kochi UA while Chennamangalam is. References have also been given to these authentic sources. Moreover, there was no census in 2005. Even the reference given never speak about such a number. So there cannot be an estimate in 2005. I have retained the reference as it precisely quotes the census data. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Prathambhu (talkcontribs) 14:10, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not a Metropolitan Area

[edit]

A Metropolitan area should have more than 4 million population. Refer [1] [[2]]. Please Change the title back to UA - Rahulpattuvam talk 06:57, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Muvattupuzha town part of Kochi urban calculation?

[edit]

I know Piravom(33kms) and Muvattupuzha(42kms) are not so far from Kochi. besides, Kochi's eastern arterial road(NH49) connects to Muvattupuzha and the town and nearby region clearly shows the vibe of a suburb of the city. the commuting population in these towns are towards Ernakulam CBD and towards Kakkanad and Aluva. If the highways improve, the distance to Ernakulam can reduced to 35kms considering aerial distance is less. why, Govt planners left out Muvattupuzha? if you consider equiv-distant towns like Kodungallur, Cherthala, Angamaly, Vaikom etc, the amount of dependency towards Kochi city is highest in the eastern plains Kolenchery, Muvattupuzha, Piravom and even Kothamangalam also. for a city like Bangalore or Hyderabad, the expansion was always towards the eastern side while it is not seen in Kochi. Thripunithura still remains a idle, stagnant town. I hope Govt includes Muvattupuzha also to urban region and prevent formation of a new district at Muvattupuzha which will hamper Kochi's eastern expansion. Developing Palarivattom-Kakkanad-Muvattupuzha 4 lane highway as well as straightening Muvattupuzha-Thrippunithura highway needs priority. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.243.4.191 (talk) 03:38, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
