Kim Yo-jong vs Kim Yo Jong

[edit]

At the moment, the article's title has her name romanized as "Kim Yo-jong" but the lead sentence has it as "Kim Yo Jong". The article and others related mix both versions. But we should really pick one and be consistent. It's especially jarring to have the lead sentence not match the article title. Google trends seems to give a slight advantage to the non-hyphenated version. I don't have much of an opinion here and a picking a Korean romanization is a rather ill-defined issue by our naming conventions. Any opinions either way? Consistency is the goal, I move that a no-consensus result mean that the article's usage should match the currently existing article title. There's no hurry here and this is a low-traffic article so this discussion may rather extended in time. If no consensus is reached within 6 months, perhaps that should trigger the non-consensus result of matching the current article title. Jason Quinn (talk) 06:42, 31 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. (closed by non-admin page mover) Bobby Cohn (talk) 15:34, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kim Yo-jongKim Yo Jong – Appears to be the WP:COMMONNAME, and matches the official spelling preference of North Korea (see Romanization of Korean (North)#Guide). Here's a mediocre Ngram, but anecdotally if you scroll through Google News it seems a large majority of recent articles use the spelling with the space in it.

Side note: for move requests for North Korean people, the official romanization standard of North Korea alone should not be sufficient for approving a move. WP:NCKO recommends McCune–Reischauer, which does not have a space in the personal name. These kinds of moves should be made on a case-by-case basis with WP:COMMONNAME evidence provided first and foremost. seefooddiet (talk) 12:45, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
