Killarney Heights High School may academically be succeeding, but there is great controversy within the school over the History Department. With only one official History teach remaining, after the department was fused with the English Department and two teachers were either sacked or retired, the success of Year Twelve in 2007 and the willingness of future participants in the Ancient History course (preliminary and HSC) are required in order for there to be motive enough to keep the remaining teacher, and thus the department, on board. Students within the school have commented on the rise of 'school activites' which consume the Year Twelve Ancient History periods, more so than any other subject, and the suspected attempt to phase out the enthusiasm of students who undertake the History course, giving the Head Department reason enough to remove the final History teacher, and thus the entire subject, from the school. All the above issues have been fixed and addressed internally by the school.
The school has now got a rotating two year history/geography mandatory subject for Years 7-10, along with having a HISIE department (History, Geography), along with enough History teachers to go round. Willowsalgo (talk) 14:04, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
