Misam
[edit]The name "Misam" is probably an error. Sources, where they have a citation, reference "Star Names, Their Lore and Meaning" by Richard Hinckley Allen. That work mentions "Misam al Thurayya" (wrist of the Pleiades) as the Arabic name for Chi Persei, not actually a star but a double cluster now referred to as NGC 869 and NGC 864. The lack of a Chi Persei in modern star maps (e.g. Tirion) and the similarity of a Chi to a Kappa probably led to this misidentification. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.230.222.19 (talk) 03:58, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
- I agree. The only sources for the name I could find are recent; there's nothing solid. Praemonitus (talk) 16:52, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
- That website is a very poor source. I'm removing the name. Lithopsian (talk) 20:31, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
