"Marshal Hata"
[edit]- Marshal Hata received "Ultimatum to surrender" from Soviet General Georgii Shelakhov[5][6] in Harbin on August 18, 1945.
Wasn't that actually Lt.General Hikosaburo Hata? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.188.24.25 (talk) 12:53, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Kwantung Army
[edit]Why was this article renamed without discussion. I know “Kantogun” is the Japanese name but I’m pretty sure “Kwantung Army” is the most common English name.--Lairor (talk) 01:38, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
- I agree. This article should not have had its name changed from a familiar English to an unfamiliar Romanized Japanese title. --Yaush (talk) 01:32, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
- Also agree. It was moved with this edit, which has banjaxed the page histories completely. It'll need an admin to fix it; Can I suggest taking it to WP:RM? Xyl 54 (talk) 01:28, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hi folks,
- I performed a history merge between Kwantung Army and Kantogun. There were no net page moves involved -- the article was located at Kantogun before I started and at Kantogun after I was done. It appeared that Vapour did a cut-and-paste move here (the "before" edit was from Kwantung Army, and the "after" edit was from Kantogun -- all I did was to move the histories so that they were kept together. (If anyone is curious, I have a bot that identifies cut and paste moves -- this is one that my bot discovered.) Mikaey, Devil's advocate 21:45, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Kantogun → Kwantung Army –
The common name in English for this unit, and the name used in all reliable sources is "Kwantung Army". The text of the article uses the term "Kwantung Army" throughout, as do the interwiki links and the vast majority of pages linked to here. It is entirely unclear why the page is at the current title at all (see above). Xyl 54 (talk) 17:57, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
- Support per WP:UCN (use common names) and WP:UE (use English). I am also unclear as to why this article, which was stable at Kwantung Army for years, was moved without discussion. Also note that many sources which otherwise use pinyin (like Wikipedia per WP:PINYIN) still use the spelling "Kwantung" rather than Guandong — cf. Whampoa, Manchukuo, Kuomintang. — AjaxSmack 19:24, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
- Support per Ajax. 70.24.251.71 (talk) 06:54, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
- Support, per Britannica and The Oxford Companion to World War II. A Dictionary of Contemporary World History gives "Guandong Army", which I assume is pinyin. I don't see any reference work calling the subject "Kantogun" or anything similar. Kauffner (talk) 07:09, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
- Support per all the reasons already given. --Yaush (talk) 15:53, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- Support - common English name Green Giant (talk) 13:18, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
