Fair use rationale for Image:Cbs 42 logo.jpg
[edit]Image:Cbs 42 logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

---|---|---|
1. Well-written: | ||
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct. | ||
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation. | ||
2. Verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check: | ||
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline. | ||
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose). | All sources seem suitable. | |
2c. it contains no original research. | ||
2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism. | I reviewed the one non-zero match (3.8%) found using Earwig's Copyvio Detector. Fine per WP:LIMITED. No copyvio/plagiarism issues found during spot checks. | |
3. Broad in its coverage: | ||
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic. | ||
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style). | Suitable. | |
4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each. | No issues. | |
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute. | No evidence of lack of stability. | |
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio: | ||
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content. | Both images PD. Rationale for the logo seems reasonable. | |
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions. | Fine. | |
7. Overall assessment. |
- Lead: "the station broadened its appeal by affiliating with the new Fox network at its launch in October 1986" - suggest adding more detail (e.g. type of progams/target audience or whatever)
- Reworded.
- History: "In 1991, it became the first station outside of San Antonio to air a package of San Antonio Spurs basketball games" - doesn't seem particularly notable to me, but perhaps it is. No issues with retaining it.
- The Spurs now play a series every year in Austin, which is the only reason I've included the sentence.
- History: "Cannan and Beard were now the sole owners" - having more than one sole owner sounds odd to me, but perhaps it is fine in American English.
- Reworded.
- News operation: "CBS also made investments in weather forecasting and anchor salaries" seems a bit vague, but perhaps the source doesn't permit anything more specific.
- It does not.
- News operation: "the station had short-lived ratings momentum" - I'm not sure having read the source that "momentum" is quite the right word, but won't insist on a change if you're happy with it.
- Reworded.
- Notable former on-air staff - both seem notable, and it doesn't say it's a full list, so seems OK. (No action needed)
- Spot check on "The station, renamed KTVV, moved to channel 36 in January 1973" - no issues
- Spot check on "Pappas dropped out, and the four other applicants reached a settlement agreement—announced in June 1982 but not approved until March 1983 by which Television Corporation of Central Texas would be a consultant to a merger of Austin Telecasting, Mountain Laurel, and Texas Television, known as Austin Television." - no issues.
- Spot check on "On October 9, 1986, the station became a charter affiliate of the upstart Fox network" - I'm not sure about "upstart"
- Spot check on "In 1991, it became the first station outside of San Antonio to air a package of San Antonio Spurs basketball games" - no issues.
- Spot check on "That April, CBS agreed to buy the station for $160 million" - no issues.
- Spot check on "Under CBS, management turned over frequently, with six general managers in five years" I think in the context of the article, "six top management changes" does verify this, so no issues.
- Spot check on "The deal was completed on January 3, 2012," - not 100% sure on this one. It's the date of the articel, but the article also mentions "the parties agreed to an effective closing date of Jan. 1, 2012."
- Spot check on "Its news programs were faster-paced than the competition with a higher-than-average reliance on props and unconventional methods of storytelling" - no issues.
Great work as ever, Sammi Brie. I hope the comments above are helpful; I'm happy to discuss any of them. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 19:53, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
