[edit]Untitled
[edit]I am new on Wikipedia and would probably never have bothered to make a contribution, if it had not been for the fact that I know that the page on June Haimoff contained inaccuracies and is not up-to-date. I must confess that I did not read the Wikipedia content policies and guidelines before posting my early contributions; otherwise I would have been more cautious at making so many changes. Part of the changes indeed did not comply with Wikipedia guidelines and were therefore undone by Teapot. So far, so good ...
After finding references to back up new changes, which are far less drastic, I nevertheless saw the following comment: "A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies, particularly neutral point of view. Please discuss further on the talk page. (March 2011)"
That major contributor is undoubtedly me, because this message occurred immediately after my latest update.
HOWEVER:
1) the corrections I made concern claims which absolutely CANNOT be supported by Kaptan June and the (Dalyan) Turtles.
- JH did not come to Dalyan "because of her retirement"; the reasons are of a very personal nature and the worst part is not even mentioned in her book. What IS said about it can be found in Ch. 2, p. 12
- JH has a great many dogs and cats in her PRESENT HOME, The Peaceable Kingdom, in Dalyan (See 2nd edition Ch. 20, p.157, but never had that sort of "private asylum" at her beach hut. Again the claim cannot be supported by passages from the book, which I believe is one of Wikipedia's main concerns rather than if s.th. is true or not.
2)The additions I now make:
- had partially already been added in the Turkish version (Turkish citizenship)
- are relevant 1) Foundation to protect sea turtle habitat 2) MBE because of her contribution to the environment and the turtles.
- are supported by References and are therefore verifiable.
The fact that I personally know JH and support her foundation, does NOT automatically mean that everything I add is THEREFORE not trustworthy or biased.

- Could you please request any future changes on this page first to ensure neutrality. Thank you and kind regards.TeapotgeorgeTalk 19:30, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
Teapot, I do not quite understand the changes made as to footnotes and references. See: "Preventing link rot as you write articles, you can help prevent link rot in several ways. The first way to prevent link rot is to avoid bare URLs by using as many of the parameters in citation templates as possible to record the exact title, author, publisher, and date of the source. If the link goes bad, this added information can help a future Wikipedian, either editor or reader, locate a new source for the original text, either online or a print copy."
Although I am new to Wikipedia, as I wrote before, it seems to me that these changes may very well lead to linkrot at short notice, especially where the Embassy's page is concerned.

June Haimoff page
[edit]Teapot George,
Some time ago you added the following comment to the June Haimoff page: A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies, particularly neutral point of view. Please discuss further on the talk page. (March 2011) So far noone has felt any need to respond on the talk page and without trying to be disrespectful or biased, the only new things I added are the following:
- In 2009 June took an exam to obtain Turkish citizenship in order to start a foundation to protect the habitat of the loggerhead turtle. The Kaptan June Sea Turtle Conservation Foundation was officially established in February 2011 and will work in close cooperation with the DEKAMER Sea Turtle Research and Rehabilitation Centre at İztuzu Beach.
- June Haimoff still lives in Dalyan in a traditional Turkish house, named "The Peaceable Kingdom". She lives a very active life, supported by many friends and surrounded by her many dogs and cats.
- Her work is now being recognised by Queen Elizabeth II in the 2011 British New Year's Honors List.[2]
Looking back at what once was a reason for Cretan forever to start an item about June Haimoff was her significance for turtle protection at Iztuzu Beach, Dalyan, Turkey. So point 1 is a relevant addition. By the way Cretan forever mentioned her Turkish citizenship on the Turkish June Haimoff page before I added it. DEKAMER is the only government approved turtle centre in Turkey. Does seem relevant as well within the turtle conservation context.
Point 2 can hardly be objected to. It is in fact a correction, where it first said: .... she settled there on a permanent basis as of 1984, living with a dozen dogs and cats in a solitary barrack on the beach. No source can be found which supports this, simply because it is untrue. The remark must have been based on her own book, probably on one of the later chapters where she talks about her life in Dalyan at "The Peaceable Kingdom". I think June had only one dog at the beach, according to her book.
Point 3 is again a fact, supported by proof and can hardly be called irrelevant.
The fact that I happen to be her webmaster does not mean that I cannot write something without being biased. I correct (with proof, if necessary) and add what is relevant but missing. Unless you have good arguments to show that my three additions in fact show otherwise, I think your remark in the heading should be removed. Of course if I add any remarks in the future that do show lack of neutrality or bias, you are free to edit or remove them with sound arguments to support.

"Retirement" / June Haimoff
[edit]Teapotgeorge,
I do not know if you will still read this message, because I noticed you seem to have "retired". Perhaps someone else takes over your chores, so therefore I do send this final request to your attention.
As I remarked a few days ago, I feel there is no plausible ground for keeping the "A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies, particularly neutral point of view. Please discuss further on the talk page. (March 2011)" remark.
I would like to further develop the page, taking neutrality into account.
I will copy 'n paste my previous message and this message in the June Haimoff talk page for all editors to see and respond.
Hope to hear from you soon,

Removal COI remark
[edit]Not having heard back from Teapotgeorge or other~editors, I applied to Cretanforever who started this wikipage and has been one of its main contributors.
He supports my opinion that my recent additions and changes do not justify the COI qualification. Therefore I have removed it and will edit the article to correct inaccuracies and to update it.
