Page move
[edit]If this page is to exist at all (I personally think it should eventually replace the other two), it should probably be called something like "2007 attempted UK terrorist attacks." If there's no objection in the next few minutes, I'm going to be bold and move it. -- Thesocialistesq/M.Lesocialiste 23:49, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, but I'm moving this back. The article is aimed at dealing with the terrorism threat, of which the two attempts are symptoms. The two attacks are well covered by their respective articles; this one deals with the broader issue as exemplified by the raising of the threat level. TerriersFan 00:46, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, if you're talking about the overall terrorist threat to the UK, the article's title shouldn't include "2007" and it should also reference 7/7 and the 21 July attacks, as well as all the IRA attacks over the past decades. There's nothing really special about the terrorist threat to the UK in 2007 that warrants a separate article, except insofar as it has resulted in these two attacks. -- Thesocialistesq/M.Lesocialiste 06:32, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- We are talking about the raising of the current threat level to 'critical' - an unusual and notable occurrence, its causes and effects. The timeline of the article will close when the threat level is reduced, as it is bound to be in the next few days or weeks. Consequently, 2007 is correct. If you want to write a broad article on the other things that you mention that's fine; but it is not this one. TerriersFan 15:37, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

I support having an article which connects all those plots and subsequent arrests. --TheFEARgod (Ч) 11:51, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
Proposed new title
[edit]Having reflected, if it is not clear from the lead paragraph what this article is about, then a better title may be needed. I am still not in favour of '2007 attempted UK terrorist attacks' since these attacks are covered well elsewhere (and the Glasgow incident was an attack, not an attempted attack, though bungled) and this article is not a summary of them. Whilst (obviously) I am happy with the present title I would suggest Response to the 2007 UK terrorist incidents as a reasonable alternative because this is what the raising of the threat level and the consequences that followed actually are. May I have views on this suggestion, please? TerriersFan 16:53, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm still not too keen on having an article on the government's response to the attacks separate from the attacks themselves. The fact that Gordon Brown has responded raised the threat level to "critical" doesn't seem to justify a separate article any more than the various US threat level changes or the government responses to 7/7 or 9/11 do. I think you've hit on something, though, with the term "incidents." It's clear, short, accurate, and neutral. I'd support moving this page to "2007 UK terrorist incidents" to encompass all the plots, attacks, and arrests going on right now. -- Thesocialistesq/M.Lesocialiste 18:15, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- my new proposal is Timeline of the 2007 UK terrorist incidents --TheFEARgod (Ч) 19:52, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- I am inclined to go with -- Thesocialistesq/M.Lesocialiste's suggestion but I can't deal with it until tomorrow. TerriersFan 04:00, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Understood, and thank-you. I'll *ahem* standby. -- Thesocialistesq/M.Lesocialiste 18:35, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Standby
[edit]We should keep this article "on standby" with in mind a possible merge of 2007 London car bombs and 2007 Glasgow International Airport attack on this page. Tomj 14:13, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed, but see above on making it more clear in the here and now. -- Thesocialistesq/M.Lesocialiste 18:36, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
This page should not exist
[edit]Any content included on this page would be better placed in either 2007 Glasgow International Airport attack or 2007 London car bombs (which will hopefully be merged soon). There is no need for this page's existence and its creation has only made the merger more complicated. Please don't add any more content to it. Abc30 17:03, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Wrong - this deals with the broader issues not with the specific incidents. TerriersFan 17:26, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- The two incident pages deal with the issues as broadly as is necessary for an encyclopedia and will do so even better once they are merged. This page seems to deal with some kind of vague and unspecific concept of a threat in the mind of the article creator and such a concept does not require a page. Abc30 17:29, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- LOL. You jest, yes? The 'vague and unspecific concept of a threat' is also in the mind of the UK Government which is why they raised the threat level to 'critical' - please read the criteria for such a threat level. TerriersFan 17:47, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Plot to behead a British Muslim soldier and 2007 United Kingdom letter bombs
[edit]I have added these since they seem relevant. However, I am not committed to these additions and I welcome views on their suitability and whether they enhance or detract from the article. TerriersFan 18:24, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think they particularly belong here. When people come to this article, they'll be thinking of the car bombs in Glasgow and London and the ensuing investigation, not about the environmentalists' letter bombs or the evidently unconnected kidnap plot. I'm opposed to this becoming a page for all the various plots related to the UK in 2007; it'd be more useful if it focused in on what everyone thinks of the "2007 UK terrorist incidents". -- Thesocialistesq/M.lesocialiste 20:30, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

- Agreed, this is ridiculous. It sounds as though we only ever had terrorism in 2007 which is just nonsense. --80.3.191.13 (talk) 16:33, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

2007 UK terrorist incidents → June 2007 UK terrorist incidents – This article covers two events in one month and their aftermath. It does not cover the Miles Cooper letter bomb campaign in Feb 2007. This article has resulted in a specific category Category:2007 UK terrorist incidents, which is in June 2007 parents. If this page move is agreed, then the category can be speedily renamed likewise. – Fayenatic London 19:00, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
