[edit]I have reverted the image to what it was before we had COI edits from the subject, who on his talk page insists that only images which he controls are to be used, in the interest of making him look more professional. If he wants a webpage to reflect his personal definition of professional, he can hire a web designer and buy a website. Here, we use images which are best for the article - a comic illustrator at a signing is not only appropriate but has been used on many other pages, including Jim Steranko and Stan Lee. For him to decide the image needs to be changed to one which he controls is not appropriate. Few and far between are the cases where a professional headshot is used over one provided under a completely free license as Wikipedia requires. Similarly, if we allow the subject of pages to edit their page not to correct objective facts, but to subjectively alter the article in the name of professional image (vanity by another name) we risk rapid compromises to our neutrality in the name of 'being kind', or simply, biased. This should not stand. ThuranX (talk) 19:31, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
- To be fair, that's not precisely what he said. He said that he thought his professional image with current and potential clients could be harmed by my photo because it "portrays me during my free time taking part in a signing as opposed to an image of me in my work environment, dressed professionally and accordingly with what is expected by those who seek my services." I found that rationale rather specious, and I explained on his talk page why. It should also be noted that there is a photo of Josh Adams, from the same signing, with his father, Neal, in Neal Adams's article. This was, after all, a public book signing, and Midtown Comics, where it was held, regularly places photos from their frequent signings on their site as well.
- However, this does not mean that there isn't a valid rationale for changing a photo if a BLP subject dislikes it. In reviewing the related policies, I came across this at WP:AUTOBIO#Problems in an article about you, where it says, "If you do not like the photo, you can help Wikipedia by contributing a good photo under a suitable free content license. If you have a promotional photo you are willing and able to release under such a license, that's ideal for us and you." When I read that, I thought that the modified version of Adams' photo was adequate. Or should he have to go through OTRS before we can use it? Nightscream (talk) 21:02, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
- I fail to see how actively promoting his work isn't professional nor dedicated, so I call bullshit on that argument. However, it appears AUTOBIO's been reworked since I last read it through, so per that, and conditional to him not further editing the content, I'll self-revert. - I don't see how we're promoting his work, but I appreciate your participation in this matter. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 23:55, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
Requested move 28 March 2016
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Moved as proposed. Clear support for the mvoe, and I don't see a problem with the proposed title. He's in comics, isn't he, and the primary purpose of the disambiguator is to separate him from others of the same name. Note: disambig page move requires technical assistance, which I will request. – No evidence that the comic book guy is the primary topic. Comparing him, Josh Adams (American football), Josh Adams (basketball) and Josh Adams (rugby union), there does not appear to be a primary topic, and as such the disambiguation page should be moved to Josh Adams. The current Josh Adams article needs to be disambiguated, and per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (comics), I believe the correct disambiguation is to add (comics). - Comment wouldn't it be better to be Josh Adams (comic book creator) or Josh Adams (comic book artist) ? For some reason when I see the proposed name, I assume it is a character article. -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 03:56, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
