The lead paragraph of this article includes the sentence: "Its mascot is the Broncho and its school colors are red and black." While true, Broncho links to a stub article on some handheld operating system also called Broncho. As the high school mascot's name predates that of the os by several decades, one is at a loss to explain why this link exists (unless some enterprising Jefferson graduate created the OS and named it for his alma mater, which is highly unlikely and in any case the link should be pointing the other direction. By the way, the story of how the mascot is the Broncho and not Bronco is itself interesting and should be included perhaps. Jmdeur (talk) 19:36, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Okay, since no one took the bait on the Broncho history (although I see the link now points to Bronco as in horse, there is some improvement), I'll tell the story as I've heard it - it would be interesting if anyone can verify it or, better yet, cite a verifiable reference. If you want to say I'm full of it, that's fine too. Anyway, it probably isn't lost on the casual reader that Broncho is here spelled with an 'h.' The story that I was told, I believe by Mr. 'Mouse' Copeland (don't remember his first actual name, probably because students aren't on a first name basis with their teachers - of course, no one ever called him 'mouse' to his face obviously), the marching band director at Jeff in at least the 60s and early 70s, was that in the 20s or so the band got new uniforms. Cursory inspection showed that the uniform company had misspelled the mascot's name 'Broncho' instead of 'Bronco.' The company gave the school board the option of keeping the uniforms with the misspelled names with a substantial discount from the contracted price or ship all the uniforms back to be redone with no discount. The board decided to keep the money and rename everything else labelled with the mascot's name 'Broncho' as replacements were needed. I even seem to recall, back when I was going to Jeff, that students could use this bogus spelling in English themes, etc. without penalty if one could work it into a homework assignment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.158.61.140 (talk) 18:03, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
