Signe Leaves the Band[edit]

The section where it says "Also Anderson was quickly pushed out of the band," etc has two problems. First of all, it is unsourced. It is a pretty bad thing to say about the guy, even if it was a long time ago, and there should be some proof or I would advise against saying it. Second of all, I bet that "quickly" was meant to be "quietly." 75.69.189.42 (talk) 02:22, 30 October 2010 (UTC)Will in New Haven75.69.189.42 (talk) 02:22, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. But this could be put back with an appropriate reference, I would think. Mudwater (Talk) 03:09, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
what??? (A) where does it say this? (B) Signe is *female*. Ungghhh. Dunks (talk) 08:16, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
"The guy" I was referring to was whomever had "quickly pushed" Anderson out of the band. I see now how that could be unclear, especially as it could have been more than one person65.79.173.135 (talk) 13:49, 18 July 2014 (UTC)Will in New Haven65.79.173.135 (talk) 13:49, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This article needs and deserves a rewrite[edit]

@AbleGus: I respect all of your input, however this article is in desperate need for a full rewrite and expansion. The bulk of this article hasn't been updated since 2014 or earlier. It's messily written, has an insane amount of text that is either unsourced or poorly sourced, and is just generally underdeveloped. Jefferson Airplane deserve to have a good/featured article, and it'll never get there in its current state.

As for sourcing, I have three books: Got a Revolution!, Jefferson Airplane's on track book, and Take Me to a Circus Tent: The Jefferson Airplane Flight Manual. I agree that the article should have a diversity of references, however I was planning on using these books just to get down the band's general history before looking for additional sources to use for specific details. All of my edits are still a work in progress.

And as for the publication date of Got a Revolution!, my copy of the book reads "Copyright © 2003 by Jeff Tamarkin", but also "First Atria Books trade paperback edition July 2005". I will leave it at 2003 for now as I'm unsure which date to use in its citation.

I welcome any and all help, but please realize that this article is in dire straits. PianoUpMyNose (talk) 13:30, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Maybe I'll work on the article in my sandbox until it's up to speed. I'll also look for more sources. PianoUpMyNose (talk) 19:29, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @PianoUpMyNose. Thanks for starting a discussion on this subject. While I do not share your view that the entire article needs to be re-written outright, it could certainly be improved. If you work on it in your sandbox until ready, that would best best to avoid having an article that is a work in progress, which will lead to reversions and confusion.
I would say it is preferable to improve or add sentences within the existing framework and add new sources where needed, rather than generate a whole new article. There is some good information already included here, which could be improved and supplemented. I would also leave in the existing sources as they stand in the article. There is a good amount of diverse sources already in this article, and removing them just to wipe the slate clean is probably counterproductive.
I am going to ping @Ritchie333: on the subject of whether a full rewrite for this article is needed. He knows the subject matter, and helped rewrite some of the Jefferson Starship article after a talk page discussion.
I am glad to help you improve the article, and if there is a consensus to redo it altogether, I will try to help with that process. Thanks for the good faith reversions of your most recent edits to the page while you begin working on it in your sandbox.
Regarding to the publication date of a reprinted book, I checked the citing sources page (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Dates_and_reprints_of_older_publications) and it recommends putting both for older sources. Not sure if that is warranted here, since it is only 2 years later from the original date and there is no mention that the edition was revised, so I will leave it as is, at least for now.

There is a mistake, in the intro "Marwan al-Shehhi" is included as a member of the group. He is a 9/11 terrorist, I don't think he has had a rock career and even less for Jefferson Airplane before his birth. Lostenta (talk) 23:40, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the report. Mistake fixed. 9/11 terrorists do not usually have rock careers. Although I don't want to assume. TheOnlyEditorEver (talk) 03:41, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@AbleGus: Opening this discussion again as my interest in improving this article has been rekindled. I've thought about it and now agree with you that the whole article doesn't need to be rewritten from scratch. Right now I'll work on getting it as good as it can be in its current state (sourcing, copy-editing, etc.) As usual, any help or input is appreciated. @PianoUpMyNose: Glad to hear of your interest in improving this article. I will be glad to provide feedback or assistance. AbleGus (talk) 03:51, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
