Continued removal of sourced content

[edit]

Clayton is transgendered/transgender, whichever word is to be used. The unexplained removal of the word and the repeated removal of a very reliable source [1] without explanation seems inappropriate. Please either stop removing this content, or explain why it is being removed. The explanation on my talk page that "transgender" is preferred to "transgendered" does not explain the removal of the information or source. BeCritical 17:40, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

→"Why does Wikipedia refer to people according to their gender self-identification? Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living people says "the possibility of harm to living subjects must always be considered when exercising editorial judgment", and on 9 April 2009 the Wikimedia Foundation's Board of Trustees passed a resolution urging that special attention be paid to neutrality, verifiability and human dignity. As Wikipedia's article on the subject explains, "gender identity is a person's private sense, and subjective experience, of their own gender." We accept the person's latest identification of their gender, as documented in reliable sources, at face value. To do otherwise — to refer to transgender or genderqueer people by names or pronouns which disregard their gender identities, i.e. to misgender them — is deeply offensive and causes harm." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.157.215.48 (talk) 13:23, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stating that someone is transgendered is very far from referring to transgender people by names or pronouns which disregard their gender identities. The article refers to Jamie Clayton as female, according to her own latest identification of her gender. You do not misgender someone by mentioning that their gender identity or expression differs from their assigned sex. This should not be considered as offensive. Wikipedia literally has a list of supposedly famous transgender people (including Jamie Clayton btw) and dozens of pages about them, which refer to those people as such. It might be a matter of privacy, but Jamie Clayton in specific openly talks about being a trangender actress. This kind of information might be relevant for her filmography, for example the role of Nomi Marks in Sense8, who is portrayed by a transgender actress on purpose. Jamie Clayton even called out some cisgender actors for accepting transgender roles on Twitter. - 15 June 2017 ~~Anonymous~~

The issue here is that it's not necessary to state that she's transgender in the first setence. It's like if the page said she "Jamie Clayton is a female actor" or "So-and-so is a 5'7" actor". It has (should have) nothing to do with her acting career, or give us any general information on her personhood. The problem is not the inclusion of the information, because she is open about her trans status, but how it implies that she's different from other actors because she is trans. - 9 December 2017 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.135.230.126 (talk) 04:16, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bullshit. I'm currently watching Sense8 and was curious if Netflix was progressive enough to give a transgender role to a transgender person. I was looking up this Wikipedia page and was led to believe that this is not the case. A clear misinformation. I was expecting at least a sentence like "was born as <birth name>..." to make things clear, but even that is missing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:908:4C1B:6840:6D68:4CC8:BB64:F61A (talk) 19:02, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The article includes the sentence 'Clayton is transgender.' Rab V (talk) 20:03, 11 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have the same issue as above, wanting to determine if she was trans while playing a trans character, and I too got halfway down the page with disgruntlement before finally coming across the info. It's relevant. She's (unfortunately) a rare role model and an example of something that ought to be commonplace in entertainment media, and it is not offensive to mention an out celebrity's transgender status. Source: I am also trans (not dmab) and this is important. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.3.168.221 (talk) 23:36, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Toby Meltzer

I read a French newspaper which says she underwent surgery with Toby Meltzer. Any English language source ? Hektor (talk) 15:21, 10 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Portrait of Jamie Clayton

[edit]

I have added a photo of Jamie Clayton which I took from IMDb, see: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3911870/ I hope this is fair use, otherwise we have got a problem, also I couldn't find any other photo which is not copyrighted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Remzicavdar (talkcontribs) 20:06, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

pronouns

[edit]

the pronouns are inconsistent in this article. is this bc he transitioned during the time period over which this was written? Nuprin (talk) 06:08, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think the article was undergoing a bout of vandalism around the time you commented on this. Refer to MOS:GENDERID if you are interested in learning about wikipedia's policy around pronouns for transgender people. Referring to a trans woman as 'he' can be read as intentionally rude even if you did not mean it that way, please try to be more considerate in the future. Rab V (talk) 06:49, 15 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

sorry genuinely didn’t mean it that way—the article said he was a transgender man so i thought the actor was first recognized as a woman who now lives as a man. Nuprin (talk) 03:26, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for the link. i should have said he [sic] was a transgender man. Nuprin (talk) 03:29, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! Hope I was maybe helpful. Rab V (talk) 07:33, 16 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

you were—thanks! Nuprin (talk) 15:59, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

- Page uses the incorrect pronouns of the actor. Should edit the page to use "her" instead of usage of "him" - Remove "pretend-transgender" in "pretend-transgender filmmakers Lilly and Lana Wachowski" because it's not relevant to the sentence and serves as a element of bias. 23.93.20.72 (talk) 17:40, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Change the last line in the "Career" section from:

"In 2021, it was announced that Clayton would be killing the role of Pinhead in the upcoming 2022 Hellraiser film.[20]"

to

"In 2021, it was announced that Clayton would be playing the role of Pinhead in the upcoming 2022 Hellraiser film.[20]"

It is unclear whether the use of "killing" was meant to be a pun or a tasteless commentary on the casting decision, but it makes no sense in the context of the description. 73.243.117.185 (talk) 19:41, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done Thank you — I thought I got all the vandalism, but must have missed that bit... — TheresNoTime (talk • they/them) 19:43, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You also missed where they changed "actress" to "actor" by the way.2001:48F8:7028:2B6C:801:6290:7ED6:6520 (talk) 20:12, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There is no need for a comma in a list of only two items

[edit]

From the Wikipedia article serial comma: "In English-language punctuation, a serial comma (also called a series comma, Oxford comma, or Harvard comma) is a comma placed immediately after the penultimate term (i.e., before the coordinating conjunction, such as and or or) in a series of three or more terms." Note the condition requiring three or more terms. For some reason User:Skyerise has reverted my changes multiple times without giving a proper explanation of why it is being done. The sentence in question only lists two items, not "three or more", so my removal of the comma is correct according to the "serial comma" rule that User:Skyerise keeps (incorrectly) referencing. Now User:Skyerise has just used accused me of "comma trolling" ([2]), which is a dismissive and insulting description of my correct improvements to the article. These discussions should be kept civil and topic-related, not reduced to insults and accusations. I would appreciate it if User:Skyerise would actually read the explanatory sentence I quoted about the serial comma requiring three or more terms rather than simply reverting every change I make without consideration. I have now discussed this thoroughly on the Talk page for this article as well as on User:Skyerise's Talk page so any further unwarranted reversions of my edits will be referred to the dispute resolution noticeboard (DRN). Melissa

[edit]

Under the mention of the book Melissa, the book is described as being about “a confused boy.” This is anti-trans graffiti as the book is about a trans girl. 2601:6C0:C280:C360:B146:F6DF:BA04:BC6E (talk) 04:45, 22 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
