Hi @Checkingfax: I don't believe the IMDB link is in the correct format, can you please fix or tell me how to do it please? Thanks. Picomtn (talk) 21:34, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This has now been corrected, and the editor thanked. Picomtn (talk) 13:31, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Checkingfax: @Sainsf: When you have time, and if you'd be so kind too, could you please review this article as it pertains to WP copyright issues due to the blending of my content with that of the WP:NL editors? This is still a very complicated and confusing issue for me, and if I've made any mistakes please advise me at your soonest. Thanks. Picomtn (talk)

Hi, Picomtn. Did you copy/paste any content from nl:wp? Did you copy/translate/paste? Or, did you read the nl page and then put it in your own words? Whenever you copy/paste you should note that in your edit summary and include a wikilink in the summary attributing your source. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 18:36, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Picomtn {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 18:37, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Checkingfax: In the Early life and career section: The first 3 paragraphs are direct translations from WP:NL, my only work was with syntax. The rest is mine alone. In the Private life section: The first sentence is translated from WP:NL with, again, my syntax changes, the second is mine alone. Let me know your thoughts. Nothing from WP:NL was copy/pasted. Thanks. Picomtn (talk) 07:25, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Picomtn. The next time you make an edit on the article page, include an edit summary that a portion of the past X number of edits were copied from the NL article and make sure the article name is Wikilinked in the edit summary using four square brackets. Also, add a copied template to this talk page along with the correct parameters to link it. Then, put one on the NL page too. Changing syntax is a virtual copy/paste. Cheers! {{u|Checkingfax}} {Talk} 07:37, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB references

[edit]

IMDB should not be used as a reliable source per WP:External links/Perennial websites#IMDb... If there is no objection I will remove them all shortly. JMHamo (talk) 15:01, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @JMHamo: Please do not remove any IMDd references from any part of this article other than the lead. The WP policy you state is correct, but does not apply to any section other than the lead. Thanks. Picomtn (talk) 16:09, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @JMHamo: And just to respectfully remind you regarding the WP policy you cited...IMDb used as an external link is acceptable if the subject of the entire page is exactly the same as the subject of the IMDb page that you're linking, and which in this case is exactly how they were used. Thanks. Picomtn (talk) 16:13, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @JMHamo: Also for you to note, what you're citing is an essay and is NOT a Wikipedia policy or guideline. Hope this helps you. Thanks. Picomtn (talk) 16:17, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Probably depends on what it's being used for. Carefully read [1] and [2], their own faq at [3] and [4]. Doug Weller talk 16:34, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And definitely not for biographical information, which is user-generated. Doug Weller talk 16:35, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Doug Weller: The IMDb's I've sourced in this article are simply mere directions to the persons mentioned, and have nothing to do with the articles content. i.e. just so someone reading this article can see they are real people. Is this acceptable? Thanks. Picomtn (talk) 16:45, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Cullen328: @Titodutta: When, and if, you find the time, could you please review this issue? Thanks. Picomtn (talk) 16:41, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am in general agreement with JMHamo and Doug Weller here, Picomtn. The problem with IMDb is that much of its content is user generated without editorial control. I have encountered specific examples of IMDb being used to "puff up" the resumes of entertainers of marginal notability. In my opinion, IMDb should be used as an inline reference very sparingly, and only when consensus is clear that the information is fully vetted, such as WGA writing credits and MPAA film ratings. We do not need to use an inline reference just to verify that a person exists. However, it is OK to include an external link (as opposed to an inline reference) to the IMDb page that exactly corresponds to the topic of the article. In this case, that is Jacky Lafon and no one else. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 17:05, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Cullen's right. I'm not sure why some of the names are mentioned. Doug Weller talk 17:50, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
 Done JMHamo (talk) 22:12, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Doug Weller: and @Cullen328: Thank you both for your very insightful thoughts on this subject, and that you've made much more understandable to me here. Thanks. Picomtn (talk) 07:30, 2 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Need help please

[edit]

Hi @Checkingfax: I'm having a problem with Familie article that I really need help on. I've including this articles subject in the list and the edit source shows that it's there, but it doesn't appear on the page after saving and I'm at a loss as to why it doesn't. Can you please help? Thanks. Picomtn (talk) 11:26, 7 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
