Júlio César's Date of Birth
[edit]Well, in the page, there are 2 versions, totally different, of his date of birth.
In the first pargraph, he was born in September 3, 1979, while in the biography box (the one in the right) says he was born in October 7, 1979. Which one is right? 210.210.145.6 11:22, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
1 goal in 0 appearances
[edit]How is this possible? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.35.166.38 (talk) 16:14, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
QPR
[edit]He is not a QPR player, at least for now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 176.24.49.244 (talk) 16:34, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
Move to Júlio César Soares de Espíndola
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: moved to Júlio César (football goalkeeper, born 1979). Second move carried out as proposed. Jenks24 (talk) 13:12, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
- Júlio César (footballer) → Júlio César Soares de Espíndola
- Júlio César (footballer, born 1979) → Júlio César do Nascimento
– Júlio César is the name of a long list of footballers, many of which go by just their first names[1][2][3][4][5]. Both of the nominated players are Brazilian and born in 1979, so disambiguating by nationality or year of birth would still leave the titles ambiguous. I think the usual solution is to go with the players' full names and redirect the ambiguous titles to the dab page. Jafeluv (talk) 21:07, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:37, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Oppose Per WP:COMMONNAME. A Google News search for Júlio César returns 55,400 results, compared to only three results for Júlio César Soares de Espíndola (none of which are in English). Mattythewhite (talk) 23:47, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Support some fix to the current status cannot be opposed per WP:DAB so respondents to the RM are obliged to either support, partially support or suggest alternative solutions. In ictu oculi (talk) 23:53, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Having said that exactly how to support does have various options. The move to Júlio César do Nascimento is a no-brainer (barely notable stub only called without his family name in Qatar local league). The issue is how to make Júlio César (footballer) pass WP:AT and WP:DAB. pt:Júlio César Soares Espíndola without the de might be the default here. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:00, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Is Júlio César (football goalkeeper) per John Davies (football goalkeeper), Tamás Horváth (football goalkeeper), Rafi Cohen (football goalkeeper), Jack Kirby (football goalkeeper) an alternative? In ictu oculi (talk) 00:06, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- There's another goalkeeper who goes by just Júlio César, so "football goalkeeper" would still be ambiguous
Jafeluv (talk) 06:40, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Ah, so there is, and he's also a Brazilian. Okay then Support as proposed Thank you for having ruled out all the other options. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:35, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

- Weak oppose - The goalkeeper Julio Cesar is clearly the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC when it comes to footballers by that name. The other guy plays in Qatar and is barely known, whereas this guy has played at two or three World Cups (I forget exactly how many). The only awkward thing is how to deal with the Qatar-based Julio Cesar, as he shares a birth year with the internationally renowned Julio Cesar. – PeeJay 00:51, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- User:Mattythewhite, I can't see how WP:COMMONNAME helps when the WP:COMMONNAME is the dab.
- User:PeeJay2K3 I'm afraid you cannot oppose WP:DAB with WP:PRIMARYTOPIC because the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of Júlio César is the dablist. And we cannot argue one of these Júlio César (footballer) is WP:PRIMARYFOOTBALLER because the concept of WP:PRIMARYFOOTBALLER WP:PRIMARYCRICKETER WP:PRIMARYPOLITICIAN has been discussed many times as part of WP:DAB and rejected. Once we have disambiguation by brackets we cannot have ambiguous disambiguation, that's a central plank of WP:DAB which every sports bio follows. So all we can do is pick an alternative among the options to move. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:32, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Strong rename for both persons, they are both born 1979 and are both footballers, so the current disambiguatory terms are unacceptable and ambiguous. Disambiguation should not be ambiguous. Primary topic only deals with the term Júlio César, neither of which is vying for that position, so they both need further disambiguation, either using their own fuller names, or more terms in the parentheses. There are several footballers besides these two born in 1979, and several footballers besides these two with this name. -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 05:07, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Comment Júlio César (footballer), Júlio César (Brazilian footballer), Júlio César (footballer, born 1979), Júlio César (Brazilian footballer, born 1979) should all redirect to the disambiguation page Júlio César -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 05:20, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Strong support in principle and support specifically per In ictu oculi. Red Slash 08:21, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Comment I'm confused, do we no longer hold WP:COMMONNAME in any regard? Why name the article Júlio César Soares de Espíndola when barely anyone ever refers to the subject by this name? How are we helping our readers by referring to the subject by his rarely used full name? Mattythewhite (talk) 12:12, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- User:Mattythewhite, the problem is no one has found Júlio César (some kind of disambiguation that disambiguates). Do you have a solution which would distinguish this footballer from all the others? In ictu oculi (talk) 12:25, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Júlio César (Brazil international footballer, born 1979) would be unique to this player. The only other Júlio César who played for the Brazil national team is Júlio César da Silva. Mattythewhite (talk) 12:31, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Júlio César (goalkeeper, born 1979) or Júlio César (football goalkeeper, born 1979) might also do it, unless there's another goalkeeper born the same year that I've missed. Jafeluv (talk) 20:07, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- There shouldn't be a conflict - we can follow both WP:COMMONNAME and WP:DISAMBIGUATION. User:Mattythewhite would you accept Júlio César (football goalkeeper, born 1979), since the article must be moved to something since WP:PRIMARYTOPIC cannot apply to (already disambiguated titles) ... despite the number of editors who are misciting it in this RM. In ictu oculi (talk) 01:46, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- I would say that's a suitable dab, certainly preferable to using the subject's full name. Mattythewhite (talk) 09:14, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- Then we have found a solution Júlio César (football goalkeeper, born 1979). In ictu oculi (talk) 23:49, 19 June 2014 (UTC)

Support some move; if we're looking for a "dab that actually disambiguates", how about Júlio César (goalkeeper)? I believe he's the only notable goalkeeper commonly known as just "Júlio César". No such user (talk) 07:40, 20 June 2014 (UTC)- What about Júlio César (footballer, born 1986) and Júlio César (footballer, born 1984)? Jafeluv (talk) 15:55, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
- D'oh, sorry, careless reading. You already mentioned them above. On second thought, I'm striking my support; I'm unsure about the best scheme. No such user (talk) 16:38, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

Júlio César (football goalkeeper, born 1979) → Júlio César (footballer, born September 1979) – I don't know why, but the article's name is completely out of line with the others. Svartner (talk) 09:52, 11 March 2025 (UTC)
- Julio César de León is a footballer born in September 1979. — BarrelProof (talk) 20:40, 11 March 2025 (UTC)
- But that's a different name than Julio Cesar... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ortizesp (talk • contribs) 17:15, 13 March 2025 (UTC)
- True, but people are frequently referred to by their given names, and his given name is Júlio César. César is not his surname, it is part of his given name, and he is rightfully included in the long list at Júlio César#Association football. — BarrelProof (talk) 19:49, 13 March 2025 (UTC)

- That full name is not commonly used and goes against COMMONNAME.--Ortizesp (talk) 17:15, 13 March 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose as above. GiantSnowman 19:25, 12 March 2025 (UTC)
- Support, Júlio César and Julio César de León are different names. SMALLDIFFERENCES applies. Julio César de León never used the name Julio César.--Ortizesp (talk) 17:15, 13 March 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose I don't fully agree with the conventional naming process, but for example Julio Cesar is a well known goalkeeper. If it said Sept 1979, I probably couldn't tell it was him, but with goalkeeper I can resonably infer it's him prior to opening the article RedPatch (talk) 02:07, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
