Unofficial users list

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I kindly request your help with editing out inaccurate/misleading information. The issue is the inclusion of Saudi Arabia in a list of countries of "unofficial users" of the Iranian rial. This is both incorrect and misleading. I have tried to edit it out a couple of times, only to have it undone by Mr. Pahlevun, to whom I apologized for judging prematurely. Please note that money changers in Makkah and Madinah are particularly active around the Hajj period, where they convert the various currencies of Muslim-majority countries (including the Iranian rial) to the Saudi riyal, the only legal tender in Saudi Arabia. I would like to note that with regards to the use of currencies of muslim-majority countries, like the Iranian rial, the Indonesian rupiah and the Egyptian pound, is accepted within very small limits of time and space; only in a small number of shops in Makkah and Medina, and even then only around the time of Hajj when money changers are most active. Most Iranian (and indeed other pilgrims) know that, which is why the vast majority of them exchange their local currencies for the Saudi Arabian riyal. If what Mr. Pahlevun claims were true, then those pilgrims wouldn't have needed to do that. That is why I said Mr. Pahlevun's references were misleading. When the Iranian rial is accepted as payment in a limited number of shops within only two cities (in only a specific time of year) in a country of more than 46 cities including 20 major cities, then to say that Saudi Arabia as a country uses the Iranian rial is wrong and very misleading. To illustrate my point, the UK is not an "unofficial user" of the euro just because a limited number of businesses accept payments in euro. Or else every country would be an unoffical user of every other country's currency. Unofficial use of currency refers to partial currency substitution, which occurs when residents of a country choose to hold a significant share of their financial assets denominated in foreign currency. It can also occur as a gradual conversion to full currency substitution. This is not the case with Saudi Arabia and the Iranian rial, and therefore should be removed from the list. Well, the sources given do not support your claim:

I concur with the first editor. Rial is not accepted for everyday trade throughout SA. Only in some holy places it seems and for very limited amount. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.17.27.232 (talk) 20:27, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

I also agree with Himura Kenshin. The Iranian rial is not accepted as a method of payment in Saudi Arabia. It should not be in the "unofficial users" list. John N Smith (talk) 15:13, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Propesed edit

The page has been fully protected for 30 days and in the present version, Saudi Arabi is removed from the "Unofficial user(s)" field in the infobox, without the references being removed. I propose restoring the article to this version.

Note that:

1. It has been the stable version for long before John N Smith (talk · contribs) tried to remove the content, and the user is the only one trying to remove it.
2. John N Smith (talk · contribs) is blocked for violating Wikipedia:Sock puppetry.
3. The content has been restored by two other users to the proposed version, twice by User:ScrapIronIV [1] [2] and once by User:Emir of Wikipedia [3], before I do.

If you think the proposed change in not justified, please at least remove the reference because they it makes no sense to add references without content. Pahlevun (talk) 15:18, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
