Felder & Rogenhofer, 1875

[edit]

@Ambrosia10: I'm asking about this because I haven't been able to find a clear answer. You described the species as being described by "Baron Cajetan von Felder and Alois Friedrich Rogenhofer". I assume that's based on the link https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/1221364#page/360/mode/1up, but I can't read German to make sense of it. NZOR at http://www.nzor.org.nz/names/d0068390-d430-439d-ac59-965a3cbfa63d says "(Felder & Rogenhofer, 1875)". Do we know it was just those two or might it have included Rudolf Felder, Cajetan's son? The title page of the book at https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/1221364#page/9/mode/1up shows all three. I often see the authority as "Felder & Rogenhofer, 1875", but I think that might be a shorthand and more correct might be "C. Felder, R. Felder & Rogenhofer, 1875". Thanks for whatever help you can give in clarifying this mystery for me.  SchreiberBike | ⌨  22:46, 5 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@SchreiberBike: This is a really good question! I obtained the authors of this species from the New Zealand Organisms Register via this link by going to the nomenclature tab, then going to this species original species name Chlenias egregia Felder & Rogenhofer, 1875 page and again checking the authors names here. I then added in the data I was able to support with that citation.
@Ambrosia10: Thank you. I think I follow. How did you know that "Felder & Rogenhofer" meant "Baron Cajetan von Felder and Alois Friedrich Rogenhofer" instead of "Rudolf Felder and Alois Friedrich Rogenhofer"? Or perhanps, "Baron Cajetan von Felder, Rudolf Felder and Alois Friedrich Rogenhofer"? Maybe I need to ask a German speaker to look at the book.  SchreiberBike | ⌨  21:01, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@SchreiberBike: I've just done a bit more research and according to p164 & the cited source on p219 of this source it is Baron Cajetan von Felder who is the co-author of this species.
