Fan site

[edit]

This article is currently nothing more than a fan site for this unaccredited pseudo University. The references for this "institute" all seem unreliable and have a pro IOU POV.

This above statement is not true. I am a student at IOU and at the same time at another reputable university. I am studying Economics, but the knowledge and quality of education I received from IOU is unbelievable. I will rate this university as one of the best universities, not because i am a student there but just for the sake of honesty and justice to knowledge

Not a single academic or reliable source exists in this article. I have therefore made significant changes, removing all POV statements and content that is nothing more than advertisement material. RookTaker (talk) 10:44, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have added some reliable sources, however there doesn't seem to be much information about IOU. RookTaker (talk) 12:48, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding sourced information removed regarding Athari Aqeedah

[edit]

The IOU website includes an "Ask the Shayk" section where users can submit a question to an IOU shayk who will respond it. Just because it is designated a blog, does not mean it cannot be used. IOU would not let a shaykh post answers to question on their website unless it was with their approval. http://blog.islamiconlineuniversity.com/?s=athari

The Aqeedah of the university is relevant.

"The IOU website offers "Ask the Shaykh" where web-users can submit questions that are then answered by IOU scholars.[1] The IOU website states on its website that it only recognizes the Athari school of Islamic theology (or aqeedah)[2] and notes that although the Maturidi and Ash'ari schools of Islamic theology are incorrect, their errors are not large enough to take them out of the fold of Islam.[3]

Self-published and questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, usually in articles about themselves or their activities, without the self-published source requirement that they be published experts in the field, so long as: 1.the material is neither unduly self-serving nor an exceptional claim; 2.it does not involve claims about third parties; 3.it does not involve claims about events not directly related to the source; 4.there is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity; 5.the article is not based primarily on such sources.

Wikipedia:Verifiability#Self-published sources

There are hundreds of questions / answers that can be taken from this blog. What is so special about these answers? This is self serving. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.205.194.67 (talk) 19:10, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that the school follows the Athari aqeedah is critical to understanding the approach IOU uses to teach. Are you saying that this is irrelevant. How is it "self-serving"? Did you even read the above guidelines? Also you have violated the 3RR.Patapsco913 (talk) 19:14, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Where is the proof that this is critical? It is only critical in your own head. I could argue it is more critical to put ious views on other things like politics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.205.194.67 (talk) 19:32, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So you are saying that the school of Islamic theology that a university adheres is irrelevant. It is clearly relevant on 100s of biographies of Islamic people. Perhaps you should either talk to a Muslim or read the wikipages on Schools of Islamic theology, Athari, Maturidi, and Ash'ari.Patapsco913 (talk) 19:43, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The official IOU website is http://www.islamiconlineuniversity.com/. THis website makes no mention of Athari. The BLOG http://blog.islamiconlineuniversity.com/ mentions Athari in one article. The blog also mentions hundreds of other subjects also. What is so special about this one? why should we add this one and not the others? Also, you first said that it was "critical" to add this information and now you are saying that it is only "relevant". What is it? If it was that critical it would be all over there official website. It is a minor issue that was mentioned once on a blog and there is no reason to add it. you are clutching at straws. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.157.93.26 (talk) 17:01, 10 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why don't you ask a Muslim about aqeedah and how important it is to understanding the approach one uses to teaching about Islam. Here we have a professor at Islamic Online University stating what the aqeedah of the school is in response to a question. Do you not think Aqeedah is important?Patapsco913 (talk) 15:00, 11 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As i said before, the official IOU website is http://www.islamiconlineuniversity.com/. This website makes no mention of Athari. The BLOG http://blog.islamiconlineuniversity.com/ mentions Athari in one article. The blog also mentions hundreds of other subjects also. What is so special about this one? why should we add this one and not the others? I have spoken to muslims and most of them dont even know what adeedah is. It is a minor issue that was mentioned once on a blog and there is no reason to add it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.157.93.26 (talk) 08:31, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A quarter of a million students?

[edit]

There's a claim of registration of that number on the front page of the website, but the details behind it don't back it up. I'm only seeing a 2017 enrollment of about 4,000 students. Is there an independent source that supports the 280,000 number? —C.Fred (talk) 18:02, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed this claim as it seems spurious. MontyKind (talk) 22:15, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article name change/moving

[edit]

Hello.

This institution has changed it's name to International Open University (it's backed up with a source), so could anyone change the name of article too ? A.Krasnic (talk) 19:59, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
