No mention of Jimmy Page?

[edit]

Jimmy Page claimed to have played rhythm guitar on "I Can't Explain" Shel Talmy, producer of the album, confirms this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scieberking (talkcontribs) 04:26, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Played on the demo, not the copy released.--Occultaphenia (talk) 08:59, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sir, lets not please engage in an edit war again... I've provided some solid references and those do not contain the word "demo" recording. If you want to add that fact, use your source and add that Page was invited as a session player, and did play on the demo. What's the point in removing all my well-referenced content? That's totally unethical. --Scieberking 11:41, 29 November 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scieberking (talkcontribs)

- In an interview with Creem Magazine[2], Jimmy Page claimed to have played rhythm guitar as a session guitarist and record producer Shel Talmy confirms this.[3] = Yeah Page did claim to play on the released version. Secondly, Talmy (later a bit hostile towards the Who, though) confirms that. These two are known facts backed by Official Creem Site and link to Talmy Interview.

- The Who later credited Jimmy Page for contributing "fuzz guitar droning throughout."[4]= This fact is backed up by the Who Official site and this too does not mention the word "demo" version. The Official Discography states "The B-side of ‘I Can’t Explain’. The fuzz guitar droning throughout is played by Jimmy Page – the reason being, he owned the only fuzz box in the country at that time". Again, not even a single word about "Released" and "Demo" version is used.

- Rolling Stone Magazine [5] and The Independent [6] also mention that Jimmy Page has contributed rhythm guitar on the original recording. = These two sources apparently talk about the released version. --Scieberking 11:54, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Your deliberately attempting to push a POV, the fuzz is on "bald women blues" recheck your inaccurate link, and please try not getting into an 'edit war'--Occultaphenia (talk) 12:04, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NO. Please read clearly:

The B-side of ‘I Can’t Explain’. The fuzz guitar droning throughout is played by Jimmy Page – the reason being, he owned the only fuzz box in the country at that time.

Secondly, read this Page interview here:

http://www.iem.ac.ru/zeppelin/docs/interviews/page_77.trp

DS: I heard Shel Talmy used to keep you around Who sessions and Kinks

sessions, just in case you were needed, without really planning to use
    you in advance.

JP: Well, I was on "Can't Explain" and on the B-side, "Bald Headed Woman,"

you can hear some fuzzy guitar coming through which is me.

This clearly proves that Fuzz guitar parts on both tracks were played by him, or at least his claim. Thirdly, what about the Rolling Stone (one of the most reliable sources for Rock on Wiki) and The Independent (a respected newspaper) links? Thank you. --Scieberking 12:14, 29 November 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scieberking (talkcontribs)

Thats what i said, the b-side of 'I can't explain' is Bald Headed Woman'. Read your reference. Yes there are claims he did the rythm despite it being debunked, they can both go in there.--Occultaphenia (talk) 12:59, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, Rolling Stone Magazine (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/6596216/i_cant_explain) clearly mentions "The Who even hired that song's producer, Talmy, who recruited additional players for the recording, among them Jimmy Page, who contributed rhythm guitar". While, The Independent, on the other hand, mentions "he was a teenage session guitarist playing on records by The Rolling Stones ("Heart of Stone"), The Who ("Can't Explain." These two are VERY strong and RELEVANT references.

Secondly, Sir, Shel Talmy claimed this,[6] however later debunked the mystery, confirming Page did not end up playing on the song.[7] is not the APPROPRIATE language for a Wikipedia article.

Also, http://www.igtc.com/archives/thewho/1994/Aug/msg00034.html, though reasserts Page's work by Townshend himself {On "Can't Explain" we had been fully manipulated in the studio, the like of which hasn't been seen since (aside from my dastardly treatment of Thunderclap Newman). Jimmy Page played rhythm on the A side (I Can't Explain) and lead on the B, "Bald Headed Woman." } is an anonymous email (not a newspaper, magazine, website, journal, publication), therefore not considered a valid Wikipedia reference.

Thirdly, http://www.krecs.com/Shop/product_info.php?products_id=288 is not a relevant/ appropriate/ authoritative link and does not even state that Page did not play the rhythm guitar. --Scieberking 14:12, 29 November 2009 (UTC)

Dude wtf? i kept your information in, and added Shelmy confirming that he believed Page didn't play on the track... You are just pushing a Pro-Page, Anti- Townshend p.o.v. based on your edits here and on the Townshend page.--Occultaphenia (talk) 02:16, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sir. I'd really appreciate if you check your language like "WTF" and "Dude", which is totally inappropriate for Wikipedia. Secondly, please stop spreading misinformation here about me using multiple IPs and misleading references such as http://www.igtc.com/archives/thewho/1994/Aug/msg00034.html which is an ANONYMOUS EMAIL and does not fit the criteria of http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:RS. The interesting part is that the same email mentions Townshend saying:

Jimmy Page played rhythm on the A side (I Can't Explain) and lead on the B, "Bald Headed Woman."

But it is better we don't use that reference. --Scieberking 07:34, 30 November 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Scieberking (talkcontribs)

Rolling Stone and The Independent references back up Jimmy's claim that he has played rhythm, and are necessary for the article. Don't remove. --Scieberking (talk) 07:07, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
They're redundant. Jimmy's claim is already backed up. I'm removing the redundant information. I'm also the editor that added Jimmy Page, Perry Ford and the Ivy League to the personnel section of this article, so don't give me any more crap on my talk page. 98.113.216.32 (talk) 19:00, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thanks for the personnel section thing. --Scieberking (talk) 13:30, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chart

[edit]

The article doesn't mention a chart position, or for that matter the charts at all. Did the song not chart anywhere? -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 16:15, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done! Scieberking (talk) 17:48, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Covers/Samples

[edit]

Does the song "Me Myself and I" by Jive Jones ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ-QGLlniLM )contain a sample of a guitar riff from "I Cant Explain" by The Who? ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhuL79iEWDo ) Have a listen and see if a note needs to be added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.74.216.14 (talk) 13:12, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
