Asteroid designation

[edit]

I see a number of other asteroids designated A/2019 etc. that don't currently have hyperbolic orbits and that haven't been re-identified as comets. Did they get that designation because their original calculated orbits were hyperbolic? Agmartin (talk) 20:20, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Some examples: A/2018 V3 , A/2019 C1, A/2019 G2, A/2019 G3, A/2019 G4, A/2019 K6, A/2019 O2, A/2019 O4. That does not appear to be the case for them. BTTDB Agmartin (talk) 21:39, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
All but A/2019 C1 are retrograde and the most recent retrograde comet with an asteroid-like designation C/2019 JU6 original orbit fit was prograde, so that may be part of it. Agmartin (talk) 22:44, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Comets vs. asteroids

[edit]

Why does hyperbolic asteroid get its own page but hyperbolic comet redirects to list of hyperbolic comets?--96.44.197.17 (talk) 18:27, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
