Needs to be fixed
[edit]This page still needs to be fixed. The new section about the New York artist needs to be separated into a different article because it is a totally different person, however considering the username of the person who added the section, they may just be using this as an advertisement. It needs to be wikified and locked to prevent edits such as those concerning the "fact" that hyde is going to "look like a cute boy forever."
I know that 'hyde' is the first word of the sentence, but 'Hyde' is not how his name is spelled. Yes, yes, it's technical. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ultrabionic ang (talk • contribs) 02:54, 17 August 2005.
- No, it's not technical, it's wrong I'm afraid. When words that begin with a lower-case letter start a sentence, they take upper case. The only alternative is to recast the sentence so that it doesn't start with his name.
- By the way, always "sign" your messages on talk pages with four tildes (~~~~), which adds your linked User name and the date and time. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 11:54, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, if you visit Hyde's official website, you find lately he presents his name entirely in uppercase. However, all his album titles are all uppercase on the CD as well, so that really can't be said to be setting a convention. Since it is a name, as Mel said, normal capitilization conventions should be followed. -Tenshi 14:30, 14 September 2005 (UTC)
- Do not change all-lowercase name. All uppercase name is name used for his solo project. See http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/hyde and http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/HYDE. --Rowaa[SR13] 17:22, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
[Anonymous!] Instead of spelling his name wrong, spell it how it's supposed to be spelled - all upper or all lower, never with a capital first letter. Since he is a performer and is obviously using a moniker instead of his real name, you should pay respect to that.
Gender?
[edit]The article says his child is a girl near the beginning, then that it is a boy in the "facts" section. Does anyone know which is true? --Tropsy 23:29, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
His child is a boy, Megumi ever announced this on an event --M racle
Capitalization
[edit]With Laruku, the band members kept their names all lower-case (a popular trend--I remember hide of X Japan had a particular reason concerning modesty). When he went solo, hyde changed to HYDE (as seen in the ending credits of Moon Child and all his solo work). But since he's occupied with both Laruku and his solo career now, I've taken to calling him Hyde to represent a merging of the two, unless I'm specifically talking about one side or the other.
All in all, I don't think he'd care much as long as you still love him. He doesn't seem like the type of guy to sue if his fans don't capitalize his name right. I don't think it's his doing anyway--more likely as per request of Sony or Ki/oon. If anyone has the chance to ask him, feel free to confirm.
--Phemeral 06:12, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
- It's been hard, but I generally try to distinguish between the two. HYDE referring to his solo career, and hyde as part of his L'Arc work. -^demon 15:54, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
As a reprentative of Tofu Records -- I can tell you that they are using the all-capitalized name HYDE. It does seem that hyde is for his work with L'Arc~en~Ciel and that HYDE is for his solo career. He has used hyde on some solo releases however, so I guess it will just have to be researched even more. Steven 23:19, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Facts?
[edit]The section "Facts about Hyde" are hardly facts. Even the note implies that they're not facts "Most of these facts are compiled by fans and would be more accurately described as commonly agreed upon rumors". FACTS are not "agreed upon rumors", facts are truths. If they are facts, they also should be cited. Please reconsider renaming the section to something other than facts, or take it all out together because rumors shouldn't be on an encyclopedia.Janechii 19:37, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree that the title of the section is misleading and that's why I added the note, which is why I can state for a fact that the note itself has no such implications. While I hardly doubt that most of the list can't be confirmed or cited from a reliable source, they're generally things that the majority of Hyde's fanbase has accepted as true. Therefore, to function as a more complete and useful reference, Hyde's wikipedia entry should at least attempt to explain some of these, at least for the newer fans who are trying to decode an allusion to some of these things.
- While it'd be nice if wikipedia had encyclopedia-quality entries, that just isn't the reality. Wikipedia is a different kind of reference that generally values quantity over quality. You'd never see a Hyde entry in an encyclopedia. Ideally, it'd be great to have both, but that's the tradeoff.
- --Phemeral 22:14, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- A lot of those in the list could certainly be confirmed as facts, like him being the only child, for example. That shouldn't be difficult to confirm. But a few are still iffy.
- I much appreciated the notes, otherwise I might have taken them all as hardcore facts. And I completely understand that some of these are widely acceptable as truth. However, no matter how you look at it, rumors are not facts. Wiktionary: "Rumor - A piece of information of questionable accuracy, from no known reliable source, usually spread by word of mouth." And you are correct that the information listed in that section are, no doubt, valuable and should be kept, but I don't they should be labeled as facts, with or without the notes.
- A recent rumor, for example, about Jennifer Aniston getting married got even Oprah Winfrey believing it as facts and aired it for million others to believe it. These rumors could potentially hurt the artist(s) as well.
- I am merely raising the question of whether some of those iffy ones should be move to its own section not labeled as facts?
- --Janechii 00:01, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- You've just stated the problems with changing the label of the "fact" section--separating the facts from nonfacts. I'll continue with your example of Hyde being an only child. Facts should be citeable. Can you produce a legitimate and respectable source of this information?
- Unfortunately, such sources are hard to come by, especially due to the language barrier and the fact that most of the true information the fanbase has of Hyde comes from older magazine interviews, given years and years ago, now obviously rare. The larger his celebrity, the less open Hyde seems to be about his personal life--understandably so, but it makes any confirmable facts about the guy very precious and rare.
- Basically the problem comes down to difficulty. While, I suppose with enough dedication, a bilangual fan could go through all the listed facts and document credible sources for the true ones, it's a heck of a lot of work and most of us don't have the resources. The person who hopefully eventually sits down and does it has my eternal respect and thanks, because they'd be doing a huge service to the fanbase and Hyde himself. But until that person comes along, we're stuck.
- And as for hurting the artist, since Hyde has never officially confirmed his real name or birthdate, it might be offensive to him for these things to even be stated and shared, but any fan profile of the guy will have them anyway. Again, without confirmation, it comes down to where you want to draw the line--a decision that is neither up to you nor me.
[Anonymous!] Some things under the so-called "Facts" section seem to contradict each other:
- He has a big appetite and loves to eat curry.
- On an interview with Pop Japan TV, Hyde's favorite food are hamburgers and is least favorite food is curry.
So does he love it or hate it?
- [NoWikiAccount] Sorry I can't answer your question, but along the line of curry, isn't it Gackt that cooks curry once a year? I could be wrong about this, though. 128.146.33.162 15:51, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
More on Caps (hyde/HYDE)
[edit]How about adding a statement at the top something like:
- This musician has chosen to spell his name hyde in group work and HYDE on solo work.
I'd like to follow that by a sentence that we've decided for consistancy to spell it one way or the other, pick one and use it through out the article. My preference is to use the normal English style for names of Hyde. RJFJR 15:01, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- I second RJFJR. The usual style ought to be followed, just for clarity's sake. --Kerowyn Leave a note 00:31, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
anosaa...
[edit]219.95.193.100 02:16, 5 September 2006 (UTC) you guys.. can i know when did HYDE was born?? hermmmmm........ he is my idol... i wish i could see him... he is great thou...
Some say it's January 29, 1969, but I dunno if that is the real deal. HYDE keeps his personal life a secret, so I dunno if that is his real birthday. Still, anyday is HYDE day! HYDE rocks! --MaskedRiderGatack 14:24, 17 October 2006 (UTC) Speaking of this, the birth date specified after his name in the first sentence shouldn't be there since it is not confirmed yet (and this is also reinforced later on in the paragraph as well!) 222.153.238.44 03:35, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Vandalism?
[edit]I'm trying to find the vandalism here and edit it. It's getting really annoying that people feel the need to do this.
Project Assessment
[edit]A fine start, and an interesting read. But that trivia section is way too long, and too many of the items are more like fandom trivia rumors than worthwhile academic/encyclopedic content. There are guidelines about this sort of thing. LordAmeth 16:54, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Birthday
[edit]In one spot it says 1968, and another 1969. I don't know which is right, but someone ought to fix it. -Ravenwolf Zero (talk) 04:12, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
It's January 29th, 1968. :D fixed, sorry about that. theWHEEgirl (talk) 02:57, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Name capitalization
[edit]In L'Arc~en~Ciel his name is written in all lowercase, however on his solo work it is written in all caps. This article cannot take preference to just one of those, therefore in this article his name should be properly capitalized. If you disagree; do not straight away edit the page, instead state your reasoning here. Xfansd (talk) 22:28, 19 May 2011 (UTC)
- Solo projects do not reflect the subject's preferred capitalization.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 00:00, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- I changed it back to proper capitalization throughout the article per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks)#Trademarks that begin with a lowercase letter stating: "Trademarks rendered without any capitals are always capitalized". I will mention the lowercase/capitalization in the lead. oncamera(t) 23:49, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
