The result of the move request was: Moved to Howard Davis (professor of architecture). EdJohnston (talk) 02:09, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Howard Davis (architect)Howard Davis (author and professor of architecture) – I am the subject of this article and the title is inaccurate. I am not an architect, but an author and professor of architecture. This matter has been referred to me by an individual affiliated with my state's architectural licensing board, which deems it illegal for a person to be referred to as an "architect" if he or she is not. This is therefore a legal matter in addition to being a matter of fact. 63.224.200.24 (talk) 04:56, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How about simply "author" in the title, and "author and professor of architecture in the title"? The word "architecture" is not a job title or a description of an individual, but an entire field. I believe that the word "architecture" might still raise problems with the licensing board. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.224.200.24 (talk) 15:59, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support moving to Howard Davis (author) as the best choice. There's another professor name Howard Davis who we have an article on, so that won't work as a disambiguator, and "architecture" isn't quite right. Do note that Mr. Davis's reason for making this request is not a reason for us to move any content, but of course it's not a reason to oppose the move either. 168.12.253.66 (talk) 16:40, 13 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - with all due respect this is not a legal matter, since the words in the parentheses are there to differentiate the subject from similar named articles. The proposed title could just as easily be a redirect so that anybody searching with those words would reach the article. Green Giant (talk) 02:30, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support move to Howard Davis (architectural writer). We don't usually use more than one disambiguator and this seems to sum up what this gentleman does to people that want to find the article. Howard Davis (architecture) is terrible, as he is not "an architecture". And no, it isn't a legal matter, since Mr Davis himself has not claimed to be an architect. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:08, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per Necrothesp; "architectural writer" sounds better than "author and professor of". Green Giant (talk) 14:54, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support renaming and clearly two disambiguators is not ideal. Appears that his professorship is slightly more notable than his authorship and would be slightly more clear and consistent with other parenthetical disambiguators -- which will likely result in a better searchability. I welcome the nominator to clarify which he believe which he is better known for - professorship or architectural writer. It was also interesting to note that there was another Howard Davis who was actually an architect, but he is currently deceased and this article is not about him. Discussion on rename

[edit]

It seems clear that there is support to rename the article, however there doesn't seem clear consensus on what to change it to. Below are the options discussed so far:

Howard Davis (professor of architecture) is probably best. Professors are often expected to write, and authors are not necessarily expected to be professors, so this title is more inclusive; and yes, it is true that in this case, the professorship may be more significant than the authorship. This title will lead to better searchability. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.202.111.2 (talk) 01:21, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'll throw my vote to (professor of architecture). I kinda think (architecture) is better, and would be perfectly acceptable per disambiguation naming guidelines, which indicates that the word in parentheses may be "the subject or context to which the topic applies, as in Union (set theory), Inflation (economics)". But I'm not going to fight for that result since others, including the article's subject, don't like it. Theoldsparkle (talk) 18:05, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Without trying to force a premature closure, I would also agree with professor of architecture. Shall we close it in shortly (<24 hours) with this as the disambiguator unless there are objections?Tiggerjay (talk) 05:09, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
