Created Hottah (Mars) Talk Page - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 14:58, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Better Mars Coordinates Welcome.
[edit]Presently noted Mars coordinates (4.59°S 137.44°E) may be *approximate only* - please check for better coordinates? - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 02:06, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
- Indeed. I did a bit of OR on this, and as I recall these outcrops are ~100 m ~east (I should probably recheck that) of the landing coordinates. I resorted to only putting 2 significant figures so that this offset doesn't matter. But AFAIK the actual coordinates are not yet in the public domain. I think we have to wait! - @DanHobley - Thank you *very much* for your comments - yes, I agree - the exact coordinates of Hottah (Mars) (and related rocks/oucrops/sites/etc) don't seem to be in the public domain - at least based on my recent searches - nonetheless, my post for better coordinates on the various related Talk Pages may help some understand that the posted coordinates on articles are "approximations only" - at least I hope so - in any case - thanks again for your comments - and - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 12:37, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
- Brief followup - decided to add the following text to relevant articles => The "approximate" site coordinates are: 4°35′S 137°26′E / 4.59°S 137.44°E. <= maybe this will be helpful? - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 12:51, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
- Seems coordinates for the Mars Curiosity rover landing site are presented (w/ refs) more exactly => 4°35′22″S 137°26′30″E / 4.5895°S 137.4417°E - of course, such exact coordinates for nearby rock/outcrop/etc sites may not (yet) be officially available - even the data set at ASU is less exact? - maybe coordinates will be better if a technical paper on the sites is published? - in the meanwhile, approximations - to 2 significant figures - seem more than reasonable I would think - in any regards - Enjoy! :) Drbogdan (talk) 16:11, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
